Craziness...

So, my big sister, an alum who graduated last spring was found to have a brain tumor a few days ago. She's been in the hospital and was released today for a week and is then going into surgery. She's only 24 years old... However, her prognosis looks really good, the tumor is non-aggressive and the doctor is really confidant that he can get out the whole thing and it is most likely not cancerous (thank god).
On a positive note, I am going into the 4th year of being active in my sorority and I'm going into my 2nd term as Archon. I love my sisters and have always felt bonded with them, but I have never felt such an overwhelming feeling of family. Jaime is in the ICU and there are strict visiting hours. However, at each set of times, you are guaranteed to find at least one sister in her room with her. I think its incredible how we're all coming together to be with her at this time. I mean, obviously its a huge deal, but I think everyone from our chapter has been to see her at least once, with most of us going at least once a day. Its incredible though... It seems like we all realize that we are ALL going through something traumatic-- she's our sister and we are all supporting each other. Jaime is one of my closest friends and I have about 5 people calling me each day asking me if I'm okay and how I'm dealing.
I love my sisters but now, more then ever, I am so excited to begin our year and begin recruitment. Something like this really helps put things in perspective. For instance, we normally do not do very well with formal recruitment and that was everyone's biggest concern. But I think this has helped us realize that we don't care how many girls we get, as long as they are going to add to the strong family that we have built. Going to the hospital and going to see her has been such an exhausting and sad experience. But seeing how everyone is coming together and supporting each other is absolutely amazing.

I will keep you updated on her condition, although everyone is confident that she will be good as new in about a month!

Sending prayers to Florida for my fellow Phi Sig sisters. I hope your big is doing better and remains in good health.

Congrats to your chapter for pulling together at such a hard time. It's nice to know you have such a bond of sisterhood when things really matter. Good luck with recruitment also.

Please keep us updated.

LITP,

Jadey

Wow, that's a really heart warming story. You should send something in to the Sphinx about it.

Wow, I'll be praying for her and the rest of you... It's great to hear that our Phi Sig sisters take care of each other like this!

Keep us posted on how things are going for her.

Can you pm me the contact address for her, I'd like to send her a card letting her know that her sisters on the West Coast are thinking of her and praying for her (and all of her family and chapter sisters).

Carolyn
