Talking senior status

I was wondering if other chapters do senior status. That is where a senior does not have to attend every meeting or event, but still pays dues.
I am starting my fourth year of sorority (came in Fall 2000) and I was not granted senior status. I am a senior in school (this is my last semester as an active member because next semester I will not be taking enough units to be active) and Panhellenic president, so I am still involved in Greek life. I just am having a really hard time with my two jobs, Panhellenic, sorority, school and my social life.
The thing that bothers me about not getting senior status, is that our advisor granted it to another member who came in Fall 2002 and has not really held any positions in the house. (I have been on executive board and held many other chair positions.)
I know that if I dropped out of sorority now, I would be given alumni status by National. Two of my pledge class sisters have already been given alumni status. Both dropped out of sorority- neither were seniors- Fall 2002 and both received letters congratulating them on being given alumni status.

How do other chapters handle senior status and who is granted it?

Thanks

My chapter just started doing "senior status" when I became a senior, and it was, quite frankly, totally awesome. Seniors still had to go to meetings (I think we would've all gone anyway even if we didn't because we wouldn't have known what was going on otherwise), but we were excused from other Greek events and not penalized. Everyone who had enough credit hours for senior standing at the university was granted senior status in the sorority, regardless of how many years they had been an active member. I'm not sure why you weren't granted senior status, unless your chapter's policy is different than ours.

pardon my board crash...

I am guessing the reason you can't go on senior status is because of your Panhel presidency. There might be something in either local or national NPC bylaws about officers having to be on full active status. If you wanted senior status, you most likely would have to drop your Panhel position.

That is weird. I thought if you dropped out of DZ altogether before graduation, you had to deactivate completely. I have heard of "temporary alumna" status (like if you are interning away from campus) and 5th year alum status, but I have never heard of "going alumna" if you were still in school and within your 4 years.

Honestly, I would drop Panhell and put that time back to DZ. I know it may be something you really worked hard for, but DZ should be number one before Panhell IF you had to choose.

There might be another reason your advisor granted the other DZs senior status. Maybe she really felt they "needed to go" or something that was really private.

Good luck!
