Question Question

Sigma Alpha Iota has a songbook full of songs about our fraternity. Do other GLOs have songbooks, too? Or do we just have one because we are a music fraternity?

Just curious. I love learning about other GLOs, and I just got to wondering about that.

We had a songbook when I was in school, but I think most of the songs were from in the 1950's and 1960's.

AOII has a songbook as well, as a matter of fact International just put a new one together pretty recently if I am not mistaken.

We have a songbook, but I don't think it's been updated in a while.
We did make a CD of our ritual, serious songs last year and sent it out to each chapter. Pretty cool!!

adpi has a song book and recently one of our more talented chapters recorded a cd of them singing the songs correctly...so us more tone deaf chapters can maybe learn to sing them right...

I believe that we have both a songbook and a cd of ritual songs. Not entirely sure, though.

We have a songbook, but the last one I looked at was pretty dated. Not that it helped my chapter much, when I was in we all sang off key! Pretty said for an organization originally meant for music majors!

That is such a GREAT idea! Maybe there is a really musical DZ chapter...there were only two music majors in mine, including me

I have the DZ songbook and the SAI songbook. They are very similar kinds of songs. Mostly really dated, however, some of the slow songs sound WONDERFUL if you can manage to teach your chapter the harmony which I know from being songleader in DZ is VERY hard, he he! In SAI though, since we were all musicians we didn't have those problems. Still, my DZ chapter was really good at singing. The harmony was left to the few of us who had a good ear

Hmmm...perhaps I will make a tape of the DZ songbook singing each voice part independently so that people can learn the songs...I'll get back to you on that one!

Years ago, Alpha Sigma Phi (and some other fraternities as well) produced an LP vinyl record containing some of the more popular songs sung by the fraternity. Some fraternities have produced modern-day versions on CD but the expense of producing a CD is enough to turn off a fraternity or sorority from producing one.
