I'm not sure what you mean by heirlooms, but here are some ideas that I either got one of my littles or got from my big or saw other people give/get...some hand made, some "store bought"
-Glass or silver box for badge
-Lap/Study board
-Bulletin or Wipe-Erase Board (Painted on or done with hot glue gun & ribbon)
-Picture Frames
-Trash Cans (sounds odd, but this was BIG in my chapter back in the day...those cheapo white plastic $2 trash cans...painted on with paint pens)
-Wreaths (ribbon...wooden letters)
-Photo Albums (easy to make fabric covered ones)
-Cups
-Stickers
-My mother made everyone in my family quilted sailboat throw pillows
-Sailboat Necklace
-Lavelier (sp?)
-You could make your lil a CD with songs that are significant to your chapter or your relationship with her
-Framed poems
-Pillow case
-Sailboats....crystal, wooden, glass, brass, candles, whatever!
-Stationery...with sailboats, violets, etc.
-Skull & crossbones stuff (purchased at Halloween it's easier to find!)
-I have this random wooden jewelry-type box that has wooden letters on it that is one of my favorite things to this day!
-There's always letters in your family print (if ya'll have families yet!)
-Flip flops
Does that help any? Or is it just too much information?

thank you!
thanks so much for your suggestions! no not overwhelming at all. we've been compiling a list of things that we know people on our campus do and our own ideas and what not. also, by heirlooms i meant things that get passed down through the family over the years. so i would start it and then my little would pass it to hers etc...

Hmm...as far as the heirloom item, see if you can find a crystal or glass sailboat. I've got an amazing crystal sailboat, and it makes me smile everytime I see it glittering on my mantel. It's even more special to me because it was given to me by a guy who's one of my best friends. He was never greek in college, but knew I collected sailboats because it was my sorority symbol and important to me. About 2 years after graduation, he gave me the crystal sailboat for Christmas. I was so happy I almost cried!

Hrm
As far as Heirlooms go im not sure how much of what I got from my big was Heirloom and how much was just cute items she gave me. I got one Teddy bear that i think is an Heirloom and its got pear earings and then a sailboat on the foot. its super cute. She also gave me this AWESOME poem called "A Sense of Sigma" and she took paint chips and cut them into trianle like pieces and glued them all around the poem then framed it! I LOVE It and always keep it close to my desk. in our chapter Family letters were big... and so was makin your lil a bag.. like a tote with our letters on it. We all LOVED ours. Oh the other thing that our bigs made us that we LOVED was our Binders. Most of them took a binder and puffy-painted it with something sigmaish and then something else that the lil liked and then we use the binders for our "sigma notes" like at Chapter meetings and what not... mine has Tigger in the S.S.S. sailboat. I LOVE it and another girl in our pledge class got one that had a Carebear on it but on its belly was a either a sailboat or SSS I don't remember. Anyway those are just ideas.
Editted to Add: If you want me to PM you the poem I will and the other thing that some bigs an lil's did for eachother was sew pillows. Or buy one and put our letters on it.

Oooh, a cute idea might be to buy a plain teddy bear and put some sort of Tri Sigma symbol type thing on it or maybe something that symbolizes other activites you like, then pass it down and explain to your little that she has to do the same thing and pass it down to her little when she gets one, etc. Could you imagine years from now how cool it would be for your family member to have a crazy ol' teddy bear that had been in the family since your chapter's founding? Maybe include a nice notebook that has a note from you explaining why you chose your accessory for the bear and some info about you?

I would vote for a Sigma photo album or scrapbook to preserve all the fun memories to come! I didn't save enough of the memorabilia from my first year and I really regret it now......

heirloom ideas
Hi, sorry for crashing your board, but I wanted to tell you what my family has as "pass down heirloom" type things.
We have a family charm, that's been passed down for about 15 years. It's really pretty, and it's nice to know that all of the family that I've met has worn the same charm.
We also have two sweatshirts one with letters and one crest.
And a mug.
Hope that helps you.
Deb
