Younger sisters going through rush...

I have two younger (biological) twin sisters going through rush this year. One will be attending Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and the other is going to University of Arizona. I know that Amanda (Arizona) is going back early to rush and I imagine it is going to be competitive. Lehigh's rush is in the winter.
Can anyone tell me what they should expect at either school...any advice or tips I could give them would be great! What houses are strong at either? Feel free to PM me with details or any help!
(I am secretly hoping that they will both go DG...then we can all be sorority sisters too!)

There was a rush thread here last year about Rush at Lehigh. I went to school at Moravian on the other side of Bethlehem but can't tell you much about the rush process there. We also have our formal rush in the winter and it's mad cold outside but it IS Pennsylvania. I'll took to see if I can find the thread. Greek life there is pretty big....lots of Fraternities and a great Hill with the houses on it.

Best of luck to both of them! My younger sisters are getting closer and closer to college and I cannot wait to see if they go greek and what they choose.

Thank you so much ZTAMich!!! Yes, it will probably be freezing in PA when my sister rushes...complete opposite of the other twin who will be battling the heat rushing in Arizona in August!

I believe there's a thread on U of A recruitment as well. I know there's a PNM on here going through it and I think it is pretty competitive.

There's also a thread on recruitment at PAC-10 schools that discusses it.

We have a chapter there but I'm not sure of the others........

Hey Allison! I'm an Alpha Chi at Arizona and I can answer any questions you may have about recruitment here. I was a recruitment counselor last year so I feel especially knowledgable. Anyway the NPC chapters we have are:

Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Sigma Kappa
Gamma Phi Beta
Chi Omega
Pi Beta Phi
Delta Gamma
Alpha Phi

Recruitment here is pretty competitive though there is room for everyone to receive a bid, whether it's their first choice or not is another story. If you have any questions feel free to PM me

Well, the my Arizona sister has decided not to rush. She spoke with her roommate a couple days ago who is from Arizona has a brother who went to U of A. The girl basically told her that the sororities there were for rich stereotypical sorority girls....not my sister's personality at all.
My sister had been having doubts, but this seemed to have pushed her over. She is still planning on going back early during the rush week, so I am hoping that she will decide to rush last minute!

Oh Allison! Please give her a talking to! We all know that MANY non-greeks have negative views of greeks.

Maybe this guy has only had contact wth the soroity members who do happen to be "sterotypical"! How could he possibly know all the different types in all the different houses at Arizona (b/c there are a lot!)? Heck, in my chapter of about 80 girls we had intellectuals, jocks, partiers, rich, poor, fat, skinny, short, tall, quiet, loud - you name it, we probably had it! And most of the houses on campus had diverse girls (although personally I think my chapter took the prize for MOST diverse! ). However, there was a chapter or two who did have quite a lot of the sterotypical "rich, blonde, snotty" girls, but that was by far the exception to the norm!

Remind your sister that she shouldn't judge until she sees for herself! And even if she decides not to pledge, she might make some new, great friends from her Rho Chi group!!!

Yes, I will be the first to admit, that I had the same thoughts about sorority women here at my school. I was so wrong! Even if she doesn't join, encourage her to at least go through rush and meet some people...

A little update...
Arizona sister is leaving next week and is sooo nervous even though I know she will be fine. For now she is pretty set on not rushing and I respect that. I know that she will have a blast whether in a sorority or independent.

Being Greek at Lehigh is a lot of fun. One of my sisters works in Greek Life there. I wouldn't say it's hideously competitive, but there is competition as a lot of women at the school do rush I think. She'll do fine though
