What to do in Michigan?
Hey!
I'm meeting a friend in Kalamazoo MI this Saturday. On the way back my boyfriend and I would like to "see" some of Michigan. But... we're clueless.
Here's the path we're taking: we'll sway off it a bit if something good is off the beaten track.
Any suggestions? I'd like to do some shopping as well (ooh, I wish I could go to a Greek store - such thing are just legend in Canada - but couldn't find any in Michigan).

You'll be driving through Flint, which is my hometown. There is a greek store in East Lansing that is called Spartan Corner. The address is 103 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI 48823. Most of my sisters drive down to State to buy stuff since there isn't much Greek stuff in Flint.
Western Michigan University is in Kalamazoo so there is probably a store there as well.
I'll be on that side of the state on Saturday as well.

fun in michigan
Hey-
Im from michigan. There is a greek store in Lansing. Its kind of hard to see from the map but if you are taking 696 then you will drive right through lansing. If you stop at Michigan State we have a pretty well stocked greek store called Spartan Corner. Its on grand river right next to campus. If you need better directions you can PM me. i have a good friend who is a theta and i know i was buying her quite a few things at our greek store because she had no greek store where she lives. the greek store has most everything you can find on greek101. it also has a big selection of paddles, and letters and symbols. I know that we have kappa stuff. the only thing i would not buy there is paddle paint that they sell, its waay overpriced. But most of the girls that work there, are greek and they are always willing to help out. They also do extensive screening, they make letter sweatshirts with a huuuge selecion of fabric that i have never seen online, they also can put letters on almost any shirt you have. We have done some fun stuff, like bought tshirts on sale at the gap and then had them put sparkly letters on, etc.
If you were going the detroit way, i could probably help you more with things to do because im from the detroit area originally, but if you want things to do in east lansing i could probably help you.

Nothing.
Well, Spartan Corner is pretty cool. Used to go there for Phi Mu stuff.
On your way through St Clair Shores, you can stop by and see PiKA2001.

Well, actually, there is a lot to do in Michigan - unfortunately your driving route doesn't take you anywhere near any of it!
I graduated from Western and, yes, there is a Greek store there.
However, there is no Kappa chapter at WMU so they won't have anything for you. Your better bet for that is the one in Lansing. But, if you want to check out the houses, they are on Fraternity Village Drive, which is off of West Michigan Ave.

MSU Gardens
I'm not sure how much is in bloom right now, but State's gardens are gorgeous. They have butterfly gardens that even the boys enjoy too... There are also a lot of county fairs going on right now, and corny as they are, they really are a blast!

I will also recomend Spartan Corner (It's a block from our house!) It's on the corner of Grand River and Abbott, they had a sidewalk sale last week, so maybe you can find some good deals still!
We also have three malls in town (nothing too great) Meridian Mall in Okemos, Eastwood Town Center, and the Lansing Mall.
Lansing there are also lots of fun little shops and places to grab something to eat Along Grand River.
Campus is usually filled with people in the Beal botanical gardens, 4-H childrens garden, and if your in campus you can't skip the dairy store, it's attached to Anthony Hall. Or go by the river and feed the ducks (We LOVE the ducks!)

The way that your route is I would definately check out Lansing and Port Huron areas. A little north of Port Huron is Lexington which is a little tour-isty town with a lot of little country shops. If you were heading to metro detroit I would be able to help you out a little more.

They won't be coming thru my part of town. It looks like it on the map but they will be coming into MI thru Port Huron which is a good 35 mins north of me. St. Clair and St. Clair Shores are two different places in Michigan.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions! I'm definately going to have to check out Spartan Corners! Of course, I'm going to end up buying stuff for my entire chapter when I'm there.... Not that that is too many people right now...
A question for those in the know: Is it open on Sundays? It would be easier for me... but if not, I'll just go Saturday.

I think it opens on Sundays at noon. If you do decide to go the best place to park is behind the building. There is a back entrance to the store.

Update
Just wanted to update and say that I had an AMAZING time in Michigan. We visited WMU and MSU - WOW! I had never been to an American University - but I can now understand why you all pay so much in tuition....
I went to Spartan Corner in East Lansing and spent waaaay tooo much money on Kappa stuff (though I'm currently regretting not buying the KKG flip flops). Took a look at a bunch of the MSU houses - wow! You girls live well!
Funny story - I had gotten directions to 103 East Grand River Ave Lansing MI instead of 103 East Grand River Ave EAST Lansing. The place is just a room with some chair in it. We were totally confused until a nice lady at the nearby gas station let us in to the fact that Lansing and East Lansing were two different cities. (ooooops).
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice!
