agd at msu

Sorry to be an AGD lurker but i just had to comment....
I loved the AGDs at MSU. When I went through rush it was pi phi or agd during pref and although i went pi phi, i still really have soo much respect for the AGDs. I also know some of my other sisters also had close friends in that house. I know at pi phi we were all sad to see AGD leave (as well as Phi Mu, very recently). To reinforce what was said earlier, and i have PMed Millie more about this, i just thought i would add and say that i have heard AGD does have a bid to come back to our campus. I think tho' that there are some rules about it, and that alpha xi delta gets to come back first, then AGD then finally Phi Mu if they are interested. Our rush numbers have been actually going up and eventhough the fraternity system has had some problems very widely covered by the State News, i think the sorority system is no where near dying. I would also be very disapointed if AGD didnt eventually come back because they were one of the houses that i really feel that they were a very positive representation of Sorority life (opposite of what you would find on MTV). Oh! and because i did pref AGD, i got to see a lot of the house and it would be a shame to see that house (god forbid!) given to a fraternity like Alpha xi deltas house was. Im sorry but the Alpha xi Delta house will never be able to go back to the state it was prior to the frat boys occupying it (no offense to the TKEs).
Any questions or comments about greek system at MSU feel free to PM me, granted i dont know a whole lot about panhell, but there arent too many spartans on here.....

Millie,

It's great to hear that you're so interested in becoming an Alpha Gam.

I, along with Tonya & Judi, are part of U of M's recolonization...so it's nice to hear excitement about it from potential members!!

As far as you being involved in recolonization, I think that it's great to let our headquarters & MSU's panhel know that you're interested. However, I don't think you'd actually be involved in recolonizing, unless they want you to start up a little local that would become Chi Chapter. Otherwise, you would be a recruitment guest like other girls. Then, you would be involved in recruitment as well, much like you would with other sororities.

I hope you find what is best for you. Your enthusiasm would be an asset at any chapter, & I hope for our sake & yours that Chi Chapter is recolonized while you are at MSU. If the decision is made that Alpha Xi Delta has to come back first or it will be a few more years before Alpha Gam comes back, are you planning to rush in order to be involved in Greek life, or is your heart pretty much set on Alpha Gam?

Regardless of the answer to that question, I think it's most important to find an organization where you not only have a strong attachment to the International organization & to sisters from other chapters, but you'll have to choose a chapter where you can develop a strong relationships as a business organization (since that is sort of how the chapter functions), roommates, & sisters, where you will not only have a lot to offer, but a lot to receive.

Keep us all updated!

~ Hollie

OK, I've sent off a few emails but I haven't gotten the responses I'm looking for. AGD HQ wanted to know my intentions before answering my questions (understandably) so I sent another email explaining a little more and have not recieved a reply just yet.

I am still completely in the dark as to how recolinization would work. If anyone has any info, I would really appreciate it.

Hollie4, to answer your question, whether I rush other groups or not kinda depends on what AGD's future at MSU is. Even if it looks like Chi chapter is coming back, I may rush to make sure AGD is what I want. I absolutely agree with Alpha Gamma Delta's purpse (I've actually quoted it a few times) and diabetes runs in my family. The more I learn about AGD, the more I feel like this is somewhere I might really belong. I am trying to keep an open mind and not rule anyone out just yet.

Really, I am in no rush at all, because I will be at state for at least another 5-6 years. Also, I may not be able to attend and classes at all this fall/winter/spring, so that may even be pushed back farther. So if I do decide that I'm set on AGD, I've got some time to wait.

Thank you all so much for your help!
~Millie

Is there anyway I can verify someone's AGD membership if I have her name?

Chi Chapter House

Does anyone know the address of the original Chi chapter house? (the one designed by Emily Helen Butterfield)

I'd so love to take a peek at it!

I wonder why AGD sold that house...if it was designed by a founding sister I can't imagine why they would have let it go!

Ladies,

Sorry to crash the board, but I thought this was an interesting thread. In response to where is the Chi chapter house. It is located on the first block of Charles street, next to Sigma Pi (which used to be Phi Mu's house) I'm not sure of the exact address.
I have not heard anything about re-colonization happening in the near future at MSU, but would welcome it with open arms.
