1 1/2 years or so. Got married right after we graduated; I was 22. Some people think that's young, but sometimes you just know!

When we met, I was 25 and Mr. Carnation was 28.
We knew each other for 7 months before he popped the question--with "So why don't we get married?" as we were putting on our shoes. (Real romantic moment.)
We were engaged for 11 months.

21 - we both were, although I had just turned 21 3 weeks earlier.
How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped? 4 years 5 months...we even lived together for 2.5 of those years!! It was very aggrivating!! 
How long was the engagement? Engaged on Valentine's Day and married Nov. 6th -- I can't do math right now....long day!
We will celebrate (or should I say CELIBATE with the kid around!) 9 years of "dating" in September, and 4 years of "marriage" (the anti-dating!) in November!
Carnation -- yeah, real romantic with the shoes thing At least you didn't spend an hour and a half on the seawall in Beaufort, SC debating on whether or not we could make this work, knowing that he had the ring already, and that we had lived together for so long!!! I was so frustrated with that boy!!!

I was 20 and he was 21 when we first met in August 1986.

Question was formally popped 8 months after we met, during Easter weekend 1987.
How long was the engagement?
13 months, with the last 6 months spent with me in Kentucky and DH in Boston. We just celebrated our 15th anniversary in May, and will be together 17 years this October.

I have a photo of us as babies, and our paths crossed many times growing up, but we officially "met" when I was 17 and he was 16, about to turn 17.
How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?
He proposed on April 12, 2003. We started dating on September 7, 1997. In his proposal he even said that the last 5 years, 7 months and 5 days had been the best of his life.
How long was the engagement?
The engagement will be 13 months and 17 days. Only 11 months to go!

Umm.... I was 24 (about to turn 25) he was 34

We met March 2000, got engaged Dec 2000, so 9 months (didn't seem that long though!)

Answers:
19 -- she was within a couple months of 18
Question was never really "popped." It just kind of became obvious and was one of those "understood" things after a while.
Due to the above, there's no real answer. We dated about four years.
We will have been married 33 years one week from today.
