WWII Graduates

I'm watching some show (can't remember the name) and they just did a piece on this man who is 70-some years old and he was getting his diploma. For those who don't know, there is like this new law that people who fought in WWII and couldn't graduate high school are automatically given their diploma. Anyways, it had to be teh cutest thing! Him and his wife went to the prom with all the high schoolers and they showed him dancing the nite away with all of them! So cute! Then they showed him walking down the isle of graduation and they gave him a special honor and the speaker said that he was a TRUE hero! Then Jack (the old man) said that it was the happiest and proudest day of his life.

Does anyone know of any other stories about WWII veterans and their diplomas?

I know there was a big phenomenon of this happening in the early to mid 90s, of veterans finally getting their high school and college diplomas. I thought it had slowed because many veterans are passing on, but it's great to hear that more are completing some of these goals in life.

Not on a veteran but...

Our local paper just ran a story not on a veteran but on a Japanese woman who was forced to leave her high school senior year, close to graduation day, to go to an internment camp in Arkansas (or Alabama). Although she graduated while in the internment camp it wasn't of course the same thing as walking on stage at your high school. So Redondo Beach Union High school this year is honoring the woman and she is going to walk across the stage during the graduation and receive her diploma. It was an awesome story to read and its great how all the high school graduates are embracing the story.
