Smile How you knew you were an AST....

I stole another thread... (this time from Phi Mu..thank you, Phi Mu women!)

I wanted to start a thread about how you knew you were an AST..

Was it something someone said at rush, or did something really strike you at a COB party, or did you meet a sister that really represented sisterhood to you? Jump in at any time...

I went through rush not planning to join a sorority. As each day passed, I found myself looking forward to the AST parties. I felt so at home there, so comfortable with the sisters. There was no question, even before pref.

However, I was preffed with the Tau Cross Ceremony, and it was AWESOME!! At that point I already felt like a sister...not a rushee.

I think now I cry more at Tau Cross than I do Initiation!!!

Bumping this one up a year late!!!!

I just think this a great topic.

When I moved into my dorm on my first day of Freshman year, I was carrying around my Winnie the Pooh I got when I was 3 days old. Anywho, a girl came up to me all excited and was like "You like Poohbear?!?! Look what I got this summer!" She showed me a tattoo on her hip....and we became a little friendly. She was an RA in my dorm. Anyway, my RA started pledging that semester (AST of course) and I got to be better friends with Pooh girl. And then...one day at a COB party....I decided I wanted to be an AST and Poohgirl (Amy) became my big sister!!!!!

*Miss you Amy!!!!!!!!!*

During my freshman year I decided I wanted to join a Sorority except I had no idea how to do it. So I missed the deadlines! That year I watched all the Sisterhoods, how they acted together, who was in my classes and if they were workers or slackers, did it look like they actually liked the Sisterhood they were in, and yes, appearances.

I loved how AST sat together everyday for lunch - not because anyone forced them, but because they wanted to. They worked hard in their classes - rarely skipping & did study in the library, didn't smoke, wore letters proudly, down-to-earth and not petty, etc.

So even before I went through rush, I had AST on my mind. Rush just solidified my decision.

Pricie Mooney, Martha Callahan, and Nicole Minter. They made such an impression on me.

I knew I was an AST when, on Sorority Tea Night, my roommate and I were kicked out of it so that they could hold an all-Panhellenic meeting. We just could not be torn away from the two AST women we were talking with, and the 4 of us were inseparable throughout the rest of recruitment. As it turns out, those lovely women we were glued to ended up being our "moms" as we called them! I loved it! I also knew, just from seeing how everyone interacted with each other, and how they all cared for each other, that that was what I wanted in a sisterhood.

Talking I wanted to join AST when...

I knew I wanted to join AST right before rush. My first semester one of the sisters was in my health class and she made an awesome impression. She was really pretty, nice, smart, etc. and I knew that she was the type of person that I would want to be affialiated with. So we talked a little bit that semester and she informed me about AST (on my campus we have a lot of locals, so she explained a lot about the differences between national and local organizations). Around this time was when I was starting to look into all the organizations on campus to get a better idea of what they all offered. Although I have to say, that the more I learned about AST the more it was harder to really look into any other org.

The next semester she was in another class of mine and invited me out to formal rush (we have it in the spring). I almost didn't go, but luckily i ran into her that day at the student center and she invited me again. I went to the first night of rush and I knew by the end of the night that AST was the only org for me!! All the sisters were awesome and diffently in my opinion the best sorority on campus. I went through the rest of Rush being polite to the other sororitys but knew that deep down in my heart AST was the only one for me.

One year later, I'm so happy that I ran into my sister that day in the student center because I probably wouldn't of had the guts to come out to Rush (I was kinda shy). Being in AST is the best decesion I've ever made and I just love all my sisters so much!!

Sorry it's such a long story, but it only makes sense when it's explained in detail
