PNM - AI- for AOPi
Hi all,
I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and I've finally summoned enough courage to post my own message.
I am a recent college graduate (last May) and I am very interested in joining AOPi. I know that there are several ladies on this message board that have become AIs of AOPi, so I was hoping that I could get some advice. I haven't contacted HG yet, but I'm hoping with some support and love I'll send off that e-mail within the next few days.
I have several concerns/questions about joining as an AI. First and foremost, does it hurt my chances by not knowing any AOPi members? I am interested in the organization for its values and for what it stands for -- but I'm worried that this won't be enough in order for me to become a member after college.
Secondly, I was part of a local sorority during my undergraduate years. The sorority eventually became a chapter of another sorority, but I chose not to affiliate with at sorority. Neither of the two aforemementioned sororities were NPC members. Nonetheless, does this hurt my chances for AI?
Thanks in Advance!

Hi Rebecca,
Welcome! Glad that you decided to post, I promise we're not scary people around here
There are several wonderful AOII AI's here on GC. I am so glad each of them found their home in our sisterhood and hope that you consider the same journey.
I don't believe that a local sorority affiliation is a negative for persuing AI with most NPCs, including AOII. I can't speak for anyone other than my own opinion on that one, though! You may find out that you do know some AOIIs, but perhaps their affiliation hasn't come up before now. I think it's wonderful that you speak so highly of us, what a great compliment. Thank you! If you would like to PM or email me (see profile for addy) I'd be happy to help get you some contact info and such to help you get started. Please do!
Good luck in your journey. There are a lot of AI stories in this thread, so if you haven't already you may want to read them. Regardless of the sorority each AI chose, they each had (or are having right now!!) an amazing journey to find their own sorority home.
All my best,
Christin

Rebecca-
First, welcome to Greek Chat! You'll find LOTS of wonderful people here.
When I read your post I thought that it was almost exactly like my story! I am a 2000 AI of AOII. Before beginning my search I did not know any AOIIs but I contacted IHQ and explained that I was interested in learning more about AOII and getting involved. I too was in a local sorority while an undergraduate (they affiliated with an NPC sorority but I didn't want to affiliate - long story!). That's the wonderful beginning of the story in a nutshell.
I would definitely recommend contacting IHQ to get more information as well as letting IHQ introduce you to local alumnae.
Feel free to join us on the AOII board if you haven't already

Rebecca,
Congatulations on becoming a PNAM (prospective new alumna member.) There are several of us who are also looking for a home. We welcome you to the forum. I know you will find the members helpful and supportive!

Rebecca,
Hi welcome to Greekchat (GC). I am also a pnm and glad to see that other prospectives are posting to GC.
I also think that you should contact HQ. If you happen to locate a contact number for the Regional Director or Coordinator they will also contact the local alumna chapter in or near your area. Good Luck!

I am also an AOII AI, and I have sponsored two AOII AI's. Be sure to call headquarters (the telephone number is on the AOII web page along with the name of the Alumni Services Coordinator) and get more information.

rebakins,
feel fortunate that you were led to or stumbled upon G C!!
I think that A I can and is an important thing for people who one reason or another could not become a Member in College.
As you can see, there is a Heart felt care for Greeks on G C, and there are so many Great People here who are so willing to dig, find information, and giv help to so many!

Oh, for your info, I am almost the oldest but take claim to being the Insaneiest of ALL!

Best wishes on your journey!
Go for it rebakins! AOPi is a wonderful sorority! I wish you the best! There is a lot of good advice here on GC for prospective AIs, esp from CutiePie!!! She is tops in my book and knows so much!!
By the way, Tom Earp, you are just barely older than me but I am not sure you are the most "insaneiest!" Many of my friends think I am that!! LOL! Hey, we'd probably get in big trouble if we ever met - haha! The Doobie Bros were here in town doing a concert last weekend and, don't ask me how, but I left the concert with an autographed drumstick and two signed guitar picks from the band members -- plus a nasty little headache
Anyways, I would say that you are BY FAR the worst typist I have ever seen!! tee hee

*Update*
Well....nothing much to report unfortunately Right after I wrote my initial letter, things got really hectic at work and I didn't have a chance to get in touch with HQ.
BUT..it looks like things might be slowing down a bit and I recently made my first attempt at contact with HQ! I received an out of office reply, but I'm hoping that I hear back sometime next week. I think the waiting's the worst part...
Thanks for checking up on me! Any news and I'll let you know!
