question about gpa
by fall semester, my gpa will be at 2.65. on my campus, delta gamma's min. gpa requirement is 2.75. does this automatically disqualify me for dg? has there ever been a time, that you liked a girl so much, that you let her in with a gpa that barely makes min?i just dont like the thought of my choices being minimized before rush even starts. and dg is an excellent group on my campus so it would be a real shame not to get the chance to be apart of them.

Sometimes exceptions can be made. You're so close to the minimum, the DGs might let you be one of them. If you had a job or really hard classes or a personal crisis (illness, etc.), those are usually weighed against your GPA to make a case for an exception. Good luck!

It depends on the minimum GPA. We have so many girls going through rush, that I really don't think Emory makes exceptions. But I don't think many sororities have GPA requirements higher than 3.0...you should be okay.

All lot of times, chapters look at the overall picture rather then just grades. Like MSKKG said-exceptions can be made, but it really depends on the school and their type of recruitment (meaning large/small). Usually the more girls, the more grades can sometime mean releasing becasue chapters can't keep everyone. You are close so you need to sell yourself! Let them know you work hard or if you had circumstances beyond your control. There have been times where I've seen chapters make exceptions-your job is to prove to the chapter why they should make the exception. Be yourself and show the real you. If it's ment to be then great! But remember to keep an open mind about all the chapters! Good Luck!

It all depends on how seriously their chapter looks at grades. If there's a reason your GPA is a little low (ie - tough classload, family issues), I would be sure to tell them that.

I have to be honest and say that my chapter makes no exceptions and we have been very sad to see a few really sweet girls get cut. We look at total GPA (or high school GPA if that is where they are coming from) and not semester to semester. Our Recruitment Chair encourages girls with GPA's that are too low to work hard to bring their GPA up and then do informal rush or COB. I'd send a note to the Recruitment Chair of DG and ask what their policy is...I'm not sure what to tell you, except we don't make any exceptions.
Edited to add: If there is a reason (family hardship, ect. - I know how this effects grades with the death of my mother last semester) then contact the Recruitment Chair and she will let the right people know to make a decision.

Good question. If I had to guess I would say right before recruitment just so it is fresh in the minds of the sisters.

I would mention it to the person who rushes you on the first day, or if you know or meet the recruitment chair at any point, you can mention it to her. My house cut for grades on the first night of rush and were very strict about it. It would be best to find out about this and mention the circumstances as early as possible.

maybe i should explain my gpa history...
high school- i graduated with honors and a 3.5 gpa
college- my first year i went to a community college and got a gpa of 3.2 for the year
the next year i went to university of north florida and honestly it was the worst year of my life academically. i was going through too much stuff and i couldnt keep up with my work. so i failed the entire year and got suspended.
the next year (which was this past fall) i went back to the community college to get my motivation back to attend UNF. i took three classes and my gpa for the semester was 3.6
last spring, i went back to UNF and ended up making 3 Bs and 1A the GPA was 3.1 i think. i got term forgiveness for one of the semesters i screwed up. however, the sad thing is that my community college grades dont factor in my UNF gpa. so i now have a 2.28. i am taking two classes this summer and am very confident in making As. so my gpa will only be a 2.65.
what i hate is the fact that the sororities will only look at my UNF gpa and not my college gpa, cause it would make a big difference. oh well. maybe dg isnt for me. i still have other great groups to choose from.
as for the future, my gpa is only going to get higher. cause i am smart damn it

I should probably clarify what I said as well. I'm not a DG (there's not a DG chapter at 'Bama). Most houses have a gpa requirement, but some may not be as strict as others, especially if you have extenuating circumstances. So, no matter what house you're in, you may want to explain your gpa problem to whomever is rushing you on the first day and/or the recruitment chairs for each house.
Best of Luck!!!!!

I think your first hurdle is that you are eligible to rush. I know most schools have a min. gpa requirement just to sign up. And yes, it is verified by the school in most cases. I know my school you had to have at least a 2.5 average and 12 or more credit hours. From then on, each sorority had its own gpa requirement.

PixieChick - I think you'll do fine! A 3.2 is a reasonable GPA, especially when you were active and involved with other things.
