<< On Friday, May 16, 2003, Bro. Andrew Hugine was chosen the 9th President
of South Carolina State University (SCSU). In a press conference held
shortly after his election, Bro. Hugine outlined his plans to address the
future of SCSU. Heading the list of issues the new President will address is
"straightening out the budget."Â Other urgent concerns are deferred
maintenance and "linking our services and programs to the economic
development of the state.
Hugine sees himself as the ambassador of the university and he hopes to
launch an "Alumni Heritage Fund" to encourage alumni to give back to the
university. His vision includes raising the enrollment to 5000 students and
making sure graduates are satisfied with the qualilty of their education and
will readily contribute money and help recruit new students.
Before being named president, Bro. Hugine served immediately as the Interim
Executive Vice President where his primary responsibility was to assist
Interim President Chief Justice (ret) Ernest Finney. Before then he served
as professor of mathematics and in his earlier years at the university he
served as assistant vice president for academic affairs, director of
Institutional Self-Study, president of the Faculty Senate and as a student he
was president of the SGA during his junior and senior years.

at Xi Psi Chapter rising to chapter basileus after serving on various
committees. At the graduate level, Bro. Hugine has been a faithful and loyal
member of Epsilon Omega Chapter in Orangeburg, where he served on a number of
committees and elevating to basileus as well. At the same time, he found the
time to serve as the advisor to the undergraduate brothers at Xi Psi. On the
district and international Omega scenes, Bro. Hugine served most recently as
chairman of the Assault on Illiteracy Program committee and prior to that he
chaired the Scholarship Committee for a number of years. He also served on
