The National Day to Prevent
Teen Pregnancy - May 7, 2003
What:
On the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, teens are asked to go online and take a fun, engaging "quiz" that presents them with several real life scenarios involving sex and asks them to choose a course of action.
Why:
Despite recent declines, 4 out of 10 girls in the U.S. get pregnant at least once by age 20. Many teens say they are concerned about pregnancy, but still think "it can't happen to me." But it does - to one million girls every year. And the number one reason teen guys and girls give for not using protection is that they weren't planning to have sex and that it "just happened." Our online quiz is designed to help teens come up with their own plans for avoiding pregnancy.
Who:
The quiz is appropriate for teens ages 13 and up.

Sigma Gamma Rho continues to work to be a strong force in each and every community we serve. Please assist us in teaching teens the importance of Preventing Teen Pregnancy. Tens of thousands of teens nationwide are expected to participate in the second annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, May 7, 2003. The purpose of the National Day is to get teens to stop and think about the importance of avoiding too-early pregnancy and parenthood through an innovative, online activity.
Visit the main Sigma site at
http://www.sgrho1922.org and encourage teens 13 and up to visit the site and take the Prevention Quiz. This quiz gives teens the opportunity to create choices that they can follow when it comes to sex. It is important that our youth
understand that sex comes with consequences. It is even more
important that our youth are instilled with proper tools to prevent
pregnancy.
