Who makes the grade?
I remember reading somehwhere something about not wanting to brag that your chapter had the highest GPA, as to not look like "nerds." How do the GLO's on your campus rank?
Here are the latest calculations for St. Mary's University:
Sororities SP '01
Alpha Phi - 3.06
Alpha Sigma Tau - 2.73
Delta Zeta - 3.07
Sigma Sigma Sigma - 3.12
Fraternities SP '01
Chi Phi - 2.76
Kappa Sigma - 2.93
Lambda Chi Alpha - 2.67
Sigma Beta Chi - 2.35
Sigma Phi Epsilon - 2.65

Why would you be ashamed of good grades!? If that hurts you during recruitment would you rather have the people that would rather make bad grades?!
Don't see the logic there at all
Anything above a 3.0 though is great for a chapter average! Congratulations!

No, no. What I said didn't make sense. LOL I meant to also say that there is no reason to be ashamed, so I wanted to post our stats. BTW, thanks.

There's a thread similar to this...It's in the Academics Forum, and you can find out who has won grades on various campus over the course of the past year.
As of right now, Greek Affairs does not publish the GPA's for each chapter, out of worry that it will be perceived that Greek Affairs is helping out one house more than another...I know total BS. This is probably going to be changed for this upcoming rush period.
GPA is way more important during Fraternity rush than Sorority Rush because male rushees have the entire summer to compare houses and narrow their decisions, rather than just a week where people are being cut and all rather hectically. My chapter is lobbying for the release of GPA figures since we've won grades for the past three semesters and were 2nd for the previous 5.
They do point out what the All Greek GPA is compared to the All-University (which includes Greek members).
All-Greek: 3.147
All U :3.012
That's a pretty substantial difference, and would be more if they didn't include Greeks in the University total.

At my school, high GPAs were considered a good thing, but then we're a big nerd school. I could swear that while going through rush, I was told by every sorority they had the highest GPA!
For the fall '02 semester, the scores were:
Sororities
1 3.428 PHI MU
ALL WOMEN 3.3
2 3.313 ALPHA PHI
3 3.272 SIGMA PSI
4 3.243 ALPHA CHI OMEGA
Fraternities
1 3.41 PHI KAPPA TAU
2 3.35 DELTA TAU DELTA
3 3.336 SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON
4 3.333 ZETA BETA TAU
5 3.305 BETA THETA PI
6 3.295 SIGMA NU
7 3.285 SIGMA PHI EPSILON
ALL MEN 3.22
8 3.204 DELTA UPSILON
9 3.191 ALPHA EPSILON PI
10 3.166 THETA CHI
11 3.142 DELTA KAPPA EPSILON
12 3.137 ZETA PSI
13 3.092 PHI DELTA THETA
14 3.072 PHI KAPPA THETA
15 3.06 PHI KAPPA PSI
16 3.054 PHI GAMMA DELTA
17 2.937 SIGMA CHI
18 2.839 SIGMA ALPHA MU

Hey SATX*Aphi!
I'm a DZ at StMU and just wanted to say that we've been having major problems with getting our grades calculated correctly by Greek Life.
Our GPA should probably be a little higher because, for some weird reason, they are still including girls that are no longer members in our total numbers.
Anyway, we should all be proud because isn't the all-sorority GPA still higher than the non-Greek average?
Go Greek Nerds!

Yay! Someone from StMU. Yeah, I think the all-sorority GPA is definitely higher than the non-Greek GPA. And as far as computing GPA's, we've also had some problems, and our GPA should be a bit higher as well.
At any rate, we, along with you all, and the Tri-Sigma's, are all doing really well and should be proud.

We pride ourselves on having one of the highest GPA's on campus. I think it's like a 2.9 or 3.0, about there
