study tips
Greetings Everyone,
I have a problem that I need some help with. This summer I am taking two classes, Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II. Why I decided to take these classes at the same time blows my mind as well, it is sooooo challenging. I study my butt off and pray a lot but I never seem to make a decent grade on my tests. I have two more tests and a final and I am getting so desperate that I just want to break down and cry. I know that this is a room full of intelligent women who have been where I am or are in the same boat with me so if anyone has some study tips that helped them through I would GREATLY appreciate it. I need all the advice I can get.

Having just finished with Organic I and II, I can tell you that it's not easy. What helped me the most is making flashcards. No matter what it was I put it on a little card and carried it with me wherever I went, so that I was always reminding myself. For the tests...it was a big help that the teacher had a lot of samples. It gave me an idea of what to study in particular, so I wouldn't feel overwhelmed. Before every test in organic, I did about 5 practice tests (at least) before hand. If your teacher doesn't do this already, ask him about it. The last thing was I watched a series of tapes, called the Deep Fried World of Organic Chemistry...now, I know it sounds corny, but those tapes were heaven sent when there was a concept that I just couldn't grasp. They have all kind of techniques that help you break it down. They worked for me...I pulled an A in both semesters. Keep praying and asking the Lord to help you understand, that above all others is the best advice I could give. Good Luck

They are made by Standard Deviants, I believe. There is a website, which is where I ordered them from. Amazon.com has them, and they ship within 24 hours. They are called "The Standard Deviants: Organic Chemistry." (1,2,$ 3) The only problem was that all three tapes covered only the first semester at my school...I'm not sure how the curriculum is where you are. Good luck, happy studying!

Niceone,
I've never taken Organic Chemistry I or II, but I know that one thing that always helps me is going to talk to the professor. Usually, they'll tell you what you did wrong on your tests and how you can do better on the next test. Plus, he/she may be able to tell you a good way to study for their test.
I had one class this summer where the prof. graded REALLY hard. On the first test, I knew all the material and was sure I pulled a B+, but fooled me. I came back with a C+. I was dissappointed, but I talked to him and he told me what he felt I could have added. Nevertheless, I came out with a B+ in the class. I am so happy. So, don't give up. Hope I helped some.
Take Care,
Cookee
