What about the new Nike commercials?
The Moderator AKAtude brought up how BET's charactor Cita was a negative sterotype.
What about these new "Player's Delight" Commercials by Nike that come on featuring Jason Williams (Sacramento Kings) Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) If you haven't seen them they always come on when basketball games are on.
Does any body think that these commercials are just a little bit racist? (For the exception of Jason Williams he's white) They have animated charactors that look like the respecitve players.
The one that really disturbed me was the Tim Duncan one where they have his charactor basically looking like an ape with his arms long and his hands turned in like an ape. And please Kevin Garnett is not that ugly!! They have is cartoon charactor looking like somebody ran over his face. How could these players consent to these commercials. Don't they have enough money with their huge contracts? I thought I get different takes on the situation....

As awful as this is, Nike seems to be countering these ads with the Mrs. Jones campaign. These commercials are fairly positive. They feature a female dejay (I think it's Cynda Williams[remember Mo' Better Blues?])with some thought provoking chat.
Diva-56, have you seen these commercials?
I haven't seen the ad you spoke of, but it seems if I was one of the players that this would be humiliating and degrading. Who are these guys agents? How and why did they(the players)let this happen? You'd think they had some control over how their images are used.
Then again, there is enough money in the world for some people to go along with anything.

Sorry for the double post, but I just went to Nike.com. They have a page where you can post comments or opinions.
Thought you might want to know...

I have seen the commercials and they play right into black male stereotypes. Don't exclude Jason Kidd...his father is Black. If I were Tim Duncan I would be mad about the character that portrays me - it is a little ridiculous!
I have also seen the Marion Jones commercials and they are well done.
