Lightbulb New Ideas

Hello Sorors and Frat!!! I have a problem, I attend a predominately white University that does not offer many exciting programs for African American students. Does anyone have any ideas about what kind of programs we could put on that would be enjoyable and benefical to the African American students in the upcoming year.

How about having a Mary Kay demonstration for the ladies?

Put on a poetry slam; start a literary magazine (perhaps name it after Soror Zora Neale Hurston), talent-fashion shows.

Or better yet,

You may want to go around the campus and ask African American students what types of programs they would like to participate in and generate ideas/programs from their responses.

Creat a survey. If you need help, more info email me.

I was in your boat -- Black student @ a PWI.

Does your campus have a Black Student Organization? If not, form one.

What I have seen a lot of campuses do is have a RAP SESSION or a He Say/She Say discussion on a plethora of topics: dating, sex, college life (use Higher Learning to spark convo), relationships, this war, etc. etc. etc.

Have Black Movie night.

Do community service together.

Solicit businesses in the community to provide food for your events.

Sponsor a prayer vigil for the war or the AIDS epidemic.

Sponsor a health fair geared towards African American health issues.

Adopt a school (elementary, midlle, or high) and have a bring those kids to campus day or weekend.

Hope this helps.
