Which Sorority? Need Opinions & Advice
I want to rush a sorority at my school but I don't know which one.
We have AST, Tri Sigs, AGD, DG, D Phi E and Zeta's and I like Zeta's and D Phi E and AGD but I don't know where to go and I'm intimidated by rush!
What do you guys know about each sorority? How did you guys know which ones you liked?
thank you

I can't tell you to join my sorority because it may or may not be right for you--but I will tell you I knew I was meant to go D Phi E because thsoe were the group of girls I felt most comfortable with, and I've NEVER regretted that decision. Every Chapter is different at every school. The key is to find a group of girls you best get along with and make you feel at ease. I'd advise you to not pay attention to what other people think, go with how you feel when you are at the Rush party! And don't be nervous about Rush... Every Greek went through rush and knows how intimidating it can be; at Rush the GLO's are putting their best faces forward, and they are giong to be nice to you!!!!! D Phi E's don't bite!!! What school do you go to? If the sororties have websites check them out. Good luck! And I'd be careful posting for opinions on sororities; these threads can get heated! Let me know where you end up going!

That's a hard question to answer without knowing what school you're at. go through recruitment, and you're bound to find a sorority that fits YOUR needs.

AGD all the way
no really, just go through recruitment like everyone said. Meet the girls and decide where you belong - who knows you might go through and realize you don't want to pledge, or you could go through and wonder why it took you so long to do so either way good luck! I hope your heart leads you to a wonderful path!

Well, I say you should withdraw and go to a school with AOII!!
But, seriously, go through formal recruitment and take a look at everyone. That is a great way to assess all the groups at once, and the best way to know if one of them is right for you.
Someone with a similar screen name to yours and also from PA posted a similar question a couple of months ago. I think the responses are going to be pretty much the same.

You said AGD twice...not that I mind of course!
The best advice is to try to attend some open events and get to know the sisters of each group you're interested in. When you feel a connection with the sisters, you'll realize which group is right for you!
Best of Luck!!!

Do what everyone has said. Go through formal, meet all the houses and find the place that is home for you. All are great organizations (not that I'm biased... ) You really never know till you look at them all and meet the women in each group. Read some of the Rush stories on here, there are a lot of women who have found homes in a place they never would have thought to look first. They are happy and at home, look for that! Good luck!
Which school are you at...if it is ok to ask?

Are you going to go through formal recruitment? If so, then you don't have to worry, you will be given a chance to look at each group of girls. If you are trying to do informal rush, then you need to pick a few groups that you might be interested in. Email their recruitment chairs (say: I'm interested in rushing, can you give me more info?) ,or talk to your panhellenic office to get info on each chapter.
Pledge the chapter where you feel the most comfortable!

You mentioned that you are intimidated by rush...another option that may be available, depending on your campus, is informal recruitment. Take the time until then to get to know the different sororities and feel them out a little. If your school has informal, then go through that way; if they don't, then still take your time and go through formal next year. Hopefully it won't be as intimidating if you know some of the sisters.

is this all the groups or just some of them?? I agree, definitely go through rush...don't be intimidated...you will not know which is the best until you check them ALL out. If you don't you may miss the one which truly is right for you.

I went through informal rush my first semester freshman year. I checked out the Union when the sororities had tables and found out the schedule of parties. I went to the parties of the sororities where I felt most comfortable. I attended several parties, received a couple of bids, and found my home in D Phi E. I selected D Phi E because the women were (and are) diverse, interesting, and fun.
You can get information about recruitment/rush by going to the Student Activities or Greek Life office on campus. You can also talk to someone wearing letters and ask her about the sorority recruitment schedule. You can learn about each sorority by checking out their websites.

I believe that DPhiE's national website is down right now. (It's being updated yay!) but if you do a well placed google search you can find out most of the information there. If you go to www.npcwomen.org they have a list of member organizations which will list the other sororities as well. Good luck and don't be intimidated. They are out to impress you as well!

She's probably graduated from school now since she posted this in 2003.
