Help!!!! Revoking membership?!
I DAed from my sorority last spring. I got asked back to every house, and chose mine basically because two of my friends were. I hated it, but kept trying to give it a chance seeing as we were initiated after about three weeks, before our grades had even come out. They never stressed the permenance of initiation, and now I feel completely screwed over. I desperately want to be part of the greek system again, just a different house. Have you ever heard of anyone who had their membership revoked?! I will try anything-the whole situation is really beginning to depress me. I contacted NPC via email and they said to contact my national headquarters-will they even care?! please help!

I'm sorry...I'm just checking that I read it correctly. You were initiated after only three weeks? Is this even legal?

I keep trying to decipher this post, no disrespect intended!
Your are a member of a NPC Soroity? You were Initiated? How can taht happen within 3 weeks of Association?
Sorry, but you have had 6 posts and I am the only one to respond. Hell I always do when no one post. I am just curious!
This just does not ring true for a NPC Organization as I know of it.
Give more info please.
Thank you for your time.

I need to figure out the exact dates, but bid day was the beginning of october and I think my I week was the first week of November-so maybe four weeks but it was pretty quick.

I don't know how other NPC organizations work, but 4 weeks is an awfully short period of time. It's no wonder that they didn't stress the importance of Initiation and membership...they didn't have enough time!

actually, i was initiated after 4 weeks. my campus created a policy that all pledge periods needed to be 4 weeks long. prior to '95, pledge programs were anywhere from 6-12 weeks, depending on the chapter. in order to decrease hazing, and probably a few other reasons, the college decided that no group could pledge longer than 4 weeks (sororities and fraternities). i have heard that the campus has changed it to 5 weeks since i graduated.

Just off the top of my head---
I don't specifically know about routes you can take if you were initiated and you want to revoke membership. It would be a touchy, touchy subject.
However, there are other options if you were intitiated into a national NPC sorority---
1. a national NPHC (traditionally African-American) group or NALFO (traditionally Latino) group
2. a national mulitcultural sorority (very diverse)
3. a local sorority
4. another national sorority, such as Beta Sigma Phi or SAI
Of course, with these options, it would depend on what you're interested in and in what's available around you. Let us know more about your situation.
This thread would also be more appropriate in another forum perhaps???

4 weeks? Are you sure that wasn't just a pledging ceremony? That's REAL short for a new member period.

Off the subject.....
Actually 4 weeks isn't so uncommon. I know of at least one chapter if not two that I advise that run an abbreviated NM period that's four weeks long. Although if it was in October I'd have them do the traditional 6.

My new member program was only 4 weeks. A friend of mine pledged another sorority for 99 days, though.
Our national program states the program can only last 4-6 weeks. We take 2 classes each semester.

Phi Sigma Sigma is four weeks, we can go to six by national standards and anything over that is not good... I remember as MOC (now SDC) if my girls werent in by 5 weeks I had to give a good explanation if asked why....
