Smile For those of us who enjoy Valentine's Day...

Hi Everyone!

I know that there has recently been an Anti-Valentine's Day thread, so I was just wondering how everyone who did enjoy Valentine's day spent their day.

As for me... My boyfriend and I went out to a nice Italian dinner and spent the rest of the evening curled up on the couch watching a movie. He got me a part that I needed for my computer and a BEAUTIFUL glass flower. I got him STPs that he needed for his car, an emergency roadside assistance kit (he's a car guy, can you tell?) and a little toy lion (ADPi's mascot ) that had the words "True love" embroidered on its leg.

This is my 3rd Valentines Day with my husband. (We met soon after V-Day in 2000).

Last night was dinner at Ruggles, a very trendy/popular spot in Montrose w/ a chef that could rival anyone on Food Network.

I sent a dozen roses to him at work as a suprise.
He gave me a teddy bear wearing a "costume" that looked like a lady bug. (Costume = the kind of thing a small child wears for Halloween.)

The rest of the evening's festivities are off the record.

After work I was going to surprise my boyfriend at his work with a rose and the Fellowship of the Rings 4 disc DVD. Unfortunatly it had snowed too much and the roads were to slick for me to do that. Instead I decided to go back home and get started on our dinner. I cleaned my room and set candles up all over the place earlier. When I got home, I found that one of my friends forgot to bring over the indoor grill that he had promised to bring over. I was freaking out because I didn't know how to broil steak and I knew that he didn't like it cooked on the stove top. One of my roommates remembered that we had a George Foreman, so I spent a half hour cooking our steaks on that (I had to do one at a time). When my boyfriend finally arrived I had started to light the candles. He had forgotten the only things I had asked him to ring, the wine and the desert. While we were getting our food, the heat from the candles had set off the smoke detector in my room, in turn setting all of the smoke detectors off. I spent a good 5 minutes in the bathroom crying because I had tried. To top it all off, he told that he had written me a letter and had gotten me a card and a rose, but forgot them at home. So I had gone through all of that to have been told, oh I forgot about you. Not only that, I had started so I was cramping very badly and then all I wantd to do was sleep the pain away anhe wouldn't let me sleep. GOD, could it have been any worse? Defenitly goes down in the hall of fame as disasters.

Boy and I had planned to go to this fabulous steak restaurant in our hometown. The place doesn't take reservations, and is usually packed. He called on Thurs and they said they wouldn't get their rush until 6:30 or so.

We showed up at 6:15 and it was a 2 hour wait. No thanks. I can go catch and bludgeon my own cow in that time. Basically, they purposely backlogged the kitchen so people would sit in the bar and drink (and drink...and drink...). There were people that got there at 5:15 (and the place opened at 5) who hadn't been seated yet...

So, we ended up at my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant. We got our usual table and it was not crowded at all. (Side note: I've gotta cut back on Chinese food - I'm getting better with chopsticks than I am with a fork)

He loved the DVD that I got him (Wargames - one of his favorite movies.) He got me the Schoolhouse Rock DVD set (sooo awesome). He also got a heart-shaped box of Hershey's kisses. Inside, he'd wrapped up his own "kiss," which was a Mignon Faget tulip bracelet. Too bad he got me something almost identical for Christmas (Poor thing was SO upset when he realized it, AFTER I'd opened it). So, Tuesday, we're gonna go exchange it for the earrings

My first-ever Valentine's Date

My boyfriend brought me beautiful flowers that must have cost way too much, and then we went to dinner with my big and her boyfriend. We came back here for chocolate fondue (mmmm...) and a bottle of wine, then we went to see a play at the performing arts center on campus. Then my boyfriend and I cuddled on the couch.

Mr. Carnation and I got each other PLANTS! Just what we like!

I got him a sago palm, some kind of plant called a lucky bean, and daylily bulbs. He got me Tropicana rosebushes, a plum tree, and a lily-of-the-valley tree".

Talking It was a good day...

My friends and I went to a really good concert by one of my favorite groups (my partner doesn't live here, but I got nice cards and gifts!). They're all-female, and all my fave lefty organizations like Greenpeace, CASA, and NOW were there, and some were passing out free condoms and lollipops.

I woke up Saturday morning to the news that one of our mutual friends got engaged on Valentine's Day! We were both dreading it because of all the money we spend on the holiday, but you have no idea how happy I am for her!

I had a really nice dinner at my favorite restaurant with the boy and a couple of our friends. He bought me roses, which I was not expecting at all. Compared to last year's Valentine's Day, where my (long-distance) boyfriend didn't even bother to call me, this year was fantastic -- so I'm not complaining.

Yay for one of A-Phi's flowers representing.

As for my V-Day, I worked all day and all night and went out to a club with some co-workers. After the club I met up with a guy I met a few weeks ago and we hung out and had a really good time. Overall, my V-Day went well.

My boyfriend and I agreed that we weren't buying each other presents since we spent so much on our Christmas presents for each other. We went to a realy nice restaurant in downtown SF and he had a single red rose waiting for me on the table. After dinner, we met up with friends and danced the rest of the night.

The next morning, we left for Carson City to spend the weekend his parents. It was so beautiful up there! I haven't seen snow in about 20 years and it was my first time actually seeing snow fall. It was magical! His parents are so amazing and such great hosts! I always look forward to visiting them. We went to Reno, Virginia City, and played in the snow. I didn't want to come home!

My boyfriend and I decided that we weren't going to celebrate Valentine's Day because we're trying to save to go on vacation. We weren't even going to see each other on Vday because he was working late and I had to be up really early Sat morning (4am early). Anyway we saw each other Thursday night and when I woke up Friday morning there was a teddy bear in the bed. I was the happiest girl alive that day... all because of a simple gift. Sometimes small simple, thoughtful gifts mean so much more than expensive ones!

I went out to dinner in Galena to a nice Italian restaurant, then went back to my house and exchanged gifts, then spent the night in boy's room playing video games and watching cheesy tv.
