Quit Smoking?
Have you or someone close to you ever quit smoking?
How does it make you feel?
I ask because mr amycat quit a week ago and he is so irritible, agitated, short, pissed off, etc...
Is that normal?

oh yeah - that's normal. i smoked for about 7 years and quit twice...the second time around has been for good. and i was a nasty natsy b*tch (more than normal) and it drove everyone nuts, but they all kept in mind that i was trying to better my health and stuck with me. chewing gum helped me out a lot.

My first attempt to quit was 2 years ago and I was pretty good for a few months until I just couldn't handle it anymore.
Like Mr. Amycat I was easily irritated by everything and anything. I did eat more, but on a positive note my food tasted a lot better and my clothes and car smelled better too.

I tried to quit this past fall, and it didn't work. I think I just didn't want to quit bad enough. The gum worked pretty well, and I'm curious about this "Smoke Away" stuff advertised on tv.
Yes, being extremely irriated is part of quitting smoking.

Maybe he should try the patch or nicotine gum.

I stopped smoking five months ago. At first your body goes through kind of a detox and unfortunately a case of the crankies comes along with. Hang in there. The longer he is smoke free the better off he will be.

I really need help with my smoking habit.....
This guy came up to me and was like "You're too pretty to smoke..." as I stuck another cancer stick in my mouth....
I swear.....I'm a chainer (chain smoker) and I can't stop. The only good thing I've gotten from smoking is that I don't talk as much...

The only time I quit is when I'm sick. I would quit for good if my significant other wanted me to.
I would hate to see my personality then... Smoking calms my nerves, and I have an extremely hot Italian temper. I would prolly be a LOT bitchier than I am now.

I was watching the news and they showed this man from Massachusetts who can help people quit smoking. He has a very high success rate. I don't think that he is a hypnotist. I'll try to find out more.

Thanks everyone!
I can take things pretty personally, so at first I was thinking he was all pissed off at me, lol.
I'm trying to hang in there... and be understanding, but its hard, I've never smoked so I really don't get it.

I've heard that nicotine is as addictive as heroin so it is definitely not you, Amy.

nicotine gum and patches only work, if you have a habit not an addiction. With an addiction you get headaches, shakes, and other symptoms of withdrawl, much like someone rehabing from drugs. I'm not saying don't try the gum and patch, but watch yourself so you don't become addicted to them, basically if you're a addicted and try them, you'll just be trading where you get the nicotine from.
I have seen the heroin fact in a few places. As I recall, and I may not be correct, it is harder to kick cigarettes if it is an addiction and habit than it is to kick heroin. I think it said it had to do with the fact the cigarettes are legal and semi-socially acceptable.
I know I've tried quiting 4 or 5 times and never succeeded. But that is probably b/c I only wanted to quit on the surface and for some reason deep down I knew I wanted to keep smoking. Can't really explain it. Hope this has shed some light on some of this stuff.
