I disassociated this week
Just wanted to let those of you who are interested know that I disassociated from my sorority this week. There was no major drama, no hurt feelings, and I still love the girls. I just didn't feel that my chapter lived up to the ideals that they set, and seeing as how this trend has continued for the majority of the time we've been on our campus, changing it isn't likely. There were too many things going on that could have our charter yanked, and I don't wish to be associated with the "trouble-causing chapter". I didn't see any form of sisterhood in our chapter, and everything that the active chapter committed to, service or social, is cancelled or done half @$$ed. Too many people have left, too many rules have been ignored or broken, and people simply haven't cared for at least six years. I really feel that I made the right decision, and I want ya'll to know that it is definitely possible to disassociate without being angry or bitter. I haven't had that great of an experience with this sorority, but since it isn't an NPC group, I'm still eligible to rush in the fall, and I may do that. I haven't given up on Greek life, but I know I can expect something better from another group. Don't know what group yet.... Wish me luck!

I hope you rush!
I know most everyone's opposed to "double-rushing," but it sounds like maybe the 2nd time around things might work out for you -- you know exactly what you want and what you're looking for. Plus, you sound mature, so you'd probably be an asset to any NPC sorority.

Good luck. I know that must have been a hard decision to make, but it sounds like you did the right thing.

I'm sorry for things not turning out the way you planned, but congrats on sticking by your morals. There is a group out there that will be a much better fit for you! Good luck!

KEEP YOUR HEADS UP LADIES!
I am sensing large amounts of dissatisfaction! Please please please focus on what's good in your organizations -- we need you, greek life needs you!

You should definitely rush in the Fall if you're looking for sisterhood and commitment to activities. There are 7 wonderful NPC groups here with those qualities, of which I'm sure you're already aware. Just in case you haven't heard, though, Fall Recruitment is going to be BEFORE classes start in August this time (we're not sure of the dates yet, but I'll let you know), so make sure you're in Murfreesboro before classes begin.
And go to the Greek Life office to ask how soon you can sign up for rush, b/c there was a Sorority Interest meeting earlier this week, and I'm not sure but you might be able to sign up already. If not now, you can definitely sign up towards the end of this semester. Also, you have to have at least a 2.5gpa to even go through. You seem like a great girl though, so you probably have a good GPA.
Good luck with whatever you decided to do! If you have any questions about MTSU formal recruitment, feel free to PM me. (Although some q's I'm not allowed to answer- especially not this summer).

You know what, MSTUgirl, I've been where you were... as a matter of fact, I was there only last semester. We weren't causing trouble like your chapter was, but I definitely felt a lack of sisterhood. I actually quit another organization that I was VP of because they were breaking rules and things were absolutely awful. I've never been happier.
Your decision may have been the best for you... it sounds like your situation was worse than mine. But I do want to send a note of encouragement to other girls about how you can fix your problems. In all honesty, I realized that our problem was really 2 girls with very negative attitudes. Since one was actually our President, it pervaded the entire sorority.
I spoke up about it. We held a chapter forum and I aired out all my problems. Girls in my sorority who are normally too proud to admit they're wrong walked up to me and said, "Nicole, I am sorry for treating you so badly."
Those of you who are frustrated-- PLEASE talk to your sisters. Because if you feel that way, I can almost bet that someone else feels the same.

Today my chapter asked me if there was anything that owuld make me stay. One of the reasons I decided not to give it the rest of the semester and go alum was that I didn't want to spend the money for dues, then hate it, and quit. Then the president told me that the chapter is waiving my dues. We are very very small. We had a lot of problems, which sent the chapter down to 8. We had one girl transfer. If I quit, the chapter is down to 6. Nationals said if they don't pull in at least 4, they're closing the chapter. Although I feel that nationally, this group is a great organization, I think that it's probably best the chapter close. I sort of feel I was misled into believing it was stronger than it was. The rest of the girls are begging me to stay, but I just don't feel it's worth it. They keep saying they're refusing my disassociation papers, but I sent a copy to nationals so that I can make sure I've broken ties. Am I being too harsh?

No way are you being too harsh. If they are "refusing" your disassociation papers, then going above their heads is the only thing you can really do.
6 people in a chapter? Holy cow!

Good luck. It sounds like you are making the right decision for yourself. I do hope you rush in the fall - you'd be an asset to any group.

I'm sorry that your sorority did not live up to its ideals, but I am so glad you are still interested in and committed to Greek Life. Best of Luck in recruitment!

I am not sure, but I thought once you joined a National Soroity that if you leave you could not join another!
If this is not the case, then I wish you the best of luck with your quest! I am sure the other Soroitys on campus are aware of you and if there is a new interest group, that may be the way go?

Tom-
There are national sororities that are not NPC affiliated. The one she is in/was in is a national service-oriented sorority, so she is still very eligible to go through NPC recruitment, even if she decided to stay in her current sorority.
