a little COB thread!
hi everyone!!
you might remember me from rushing at IU last year...and now ive transferred, due to a few personaly reasons mainly. im not gonna say where i am now, not yet anyway. i dont know if anyone on here reads this, and well. i feel weird! but i will tell you i am still in indiana, but at a much smaller school (which isnt hard after leaving IU!)
i am attending COB events for two sororities here. AB is the second place i went to, but my best friend is a member. the inital pressure, and what i figured i would do, is join AB. i know almost half of the girls, we get along well, and like i said, my best friend is one.
so last week, classes start and i see flyers for CDE having informal, and my heart stops, because CDE was my favorite house at IU. while i realize, all chapters are different, i knew i had to give them a shot.
of course, ABs events are this week, wednesday, thursday and friday starting at 7. CDEs events are wednesday, thurs, and fri and also next mon, wed, and thurs, all starting at 6. of course! and AB was giving out bids this friday, and at CDE you have to attend 3 events.
i figured out that i could go to CDE for an hour, then go to AB this week. and if necessary, i can go to CDEs other events next week for full time. but i knew i couldnt alienate AB because they give out bids this week!!!
so here comes tonight. i go to CDE first, and they were meeting in their area, then going to the mens basketball game together. i had already told them i had to leave a little before 7. i ended up hanging with them in their place, then going to the game, but leaving before it started! lol. i walked in, talked to a few girls, and one named stephanie started talking to me the most. they were deciding rides to the game, and i said i had to drive myself since i was leaving early. so stephanie volunteered to ride with me so i wouldnt get lost! we had fun convo, and clicked well. then she tells me shes the chapter president. what a person to click with! we had fun talking before the game, and she walked me to the doors, and i told her that i was actually goign to an AB Event, but mainly because my best friend was one, and i felt obligated, but that i really loved CDE and couldnt wait to come back. she smiled really big, and said she couldnt wait to see me tomorrow, and introduce me to more girls. so i was happy with that!
and of course, i went to AB with an open mind, but left with the general feeling that its probably not my place. like i said, i know lots of them, and my best friend is one...but i dont want to always be known as "so and sos best friend from home."
so. im honestly not sure if ill go back to AB tomorrow night. i know i should, but i dont particularly want to. id rather spend my time with CDE!!! im pretty sure i could get a bid there, i have the grades, and got along well with all of the girls i talked to! even at AB i was known as "so and sos best friend" already.
but i will try and post a little more tomorrow night! CDE doesnt have a specific bid day...so well just have to see!

Good luck, roxydiva! I'm so glad to read that you're looking into sororities at your new school. Whatever you decide, I hope it's the best decision for you (I know it will be, I have great faith in you!)
Please keep us posted, you know how we love recruitment threads around here

Good luck! Please let us know how it goes! I'm going to be transferring too, and I'll really miss my chapter - but it sounds like CDE might be a good choice for you!

Ok, I just have to share this because it was my favorite part of Rush when I went through (yes, that's what it was back then) and it's the first thing that came to mind when I read this. And yes, I'm feeling a bit sentimental........
Back when I went through, we could get gifts from the houses and at Gamma Phi's pref party they gave us pictures that had been taken of us and an active at the preceding party. Nothing fancy, just a plain frame and paper mat. But on the mat, they had written:
Picture yourself........
A Gamma Phi Beta
And wouldn't you know, I still have it.
It's been said a MILLION times, but I'm going to repeat it, go where your heart tells you. Your friends will understand.
Good Luck and Have fun!!!

Roxydiva,
I wouldn't count out AB quite yet. Especially since CDE is having so many events you can attend. You know, and we have all said, it's so important to keep your options open.
I'm not trying to be negative, just realisitic. It's awesome you liked the girls in CDE, but you only met them for a few miutes one time. And it's recruitment, they are supposed to be nice and inviting. It just sounds a little to me like it would mean a lot to you to join this group because it is the one you liked best at IU, like some sort of validation.
Do you like the girls in AB? If so, continue to give them your time. Just because you start off being known as the best friend of a member, does NOT mean you have to maintain that rep. You make a place for yourself in a house by what you give to it as an active, not your status during recruitment.
At an rate, you sound so excited, and that is great! I am sure you will end up in the perfect place for you! Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I hope you end up with a bid from the house you want! Kathy is right, it doesn't matter that right now you are known as so and so's best friend. During informal rush, that's how we referred to practically every rushee - someone's best friend, x's roommate, or something like that. It's just a way of keeping track of people. But once they're sisters, they are certainly not thought of that way anymore.

You go!
Hey there--
I'm so excited for you (and glad to hear what's going on with you lately)!
Both AB and CDE are amazing organizations, and from what you have said, it kind of sounds like you couldn't go wrong with either of them!
So I would counsel you to just keep an open mind and pursue both of them right now...and everything will work out for the best.
I can't wait to hear how it all turns out!!!!

next installment!
ok kids! heres the rundown on my day. for starters, i was in the union after my first classes, waiting for my above mentioned best friend from AB to get out of work. as im sitting there, i see a girl i met at CDE last night. she looked at me, did a double take and then like RAN over to me! she was like "how are you doing? are you coming tonight?!" and i said of course! and she said "great! everyones been saying such good things about you!" so, that MADE my damn day.
then my friend works in basically the greek office text messaged me and said 'some CDEs came up to get your grades today.' i was like hm yeah. lovely. i still havent really talked to her about this, thats gonna come tonight.
so here comes tonight. i go to CDEs party at 6. there we make collages and just talk pretty much. soooo many girls were coming up to me saying 'youre the transfer from IU right?" or "youre a psych major right?" everyone knwe everything about me. i got introduced and reintroduced to so many girls, i feel like i met and talked to everyone who was there tonight! and one at the end said 'oh ive heard great things abotu you!" im lovin it! lol. 2 of the CDEs are in my psych class (actually the informal chair is in my group!) and we didnt know that til today, so they were like "come sit with us next time!" heh. after the event was "officially" over i stayed and talked for like 15 more minutes with different girls. love it love it love it!
which leads me to AB. for starters, their grade requirement for juniors is 3.0. im assuming thats cumulative, and if it is, i dont make it. so between that and my love of CDE i did not go to AB. i made this decision based on the fact that my grades are 2.9, and their req is 3.0. and my major love of CDE. whoever said that i shouldnt love CDE here just because i liked them at IU, i know, and i totally love the ones here! i talked to sooo many different girls, and had fun great convos with each and every one of them. many have my major, even one is in my minor (dance!). it was a wonderful time, it really was. and i feel like theyre pretty interested in me. once again the president walked me to get my coat, and then walked me out. and i told her that i wasnt going to AB tonight, because i really enjoyed my time at CDE, and yada yada. once again, received with a big smile and a "so youre coming back tomorrow then huh?"
so...now i go back to CDE tomorrow night. they dont have a specific bid night, but you ahve to go to 3 events, and there are 3 more next week. but as usual, i will keep you guys posted. i am following my heart!!! and i think this time, it might actually lead me to where i want to be!!!

at around 8:30 tonight (party ended at 7:15ish) 8 girls showed up on my doorstep, with a bid to join:
almost...this is great!
ok thats enough!!
ALPHA CHI OMEGA!!!!!
i am SO friggin happy. i cant even stand it. our chapters mascot is a strawberry, so they had a 2 feet high cardboard strawberry with my name at the top, and AXO in glitter across the middle. a bag with my bid card, a bid day t shirt (from the fall...but gimme!) a car sticker, and a strawberry shaped and scented car air freshener...all in a nice decorated AXO bag.
i really cant believe it!!! i never expected it to happen so quickly, but there was the president, the new member educator, and several other girls i spoke with tonight....wow oh, i go to Indiana State now...and it is the Epsilon Omicron chapter of AXO
