Favorite Authors

Are any of you ladies fans of author James Patterson? For those that don't know who he is,he writes the Alex Cross novels. He is one of the few authors who's books I will buy in hardback.I bought his newest last night but haven't had a chance to start reading yet.
Who do you read?

I've Been Reading A Lot Lately...

I just finished the first of the Lemony Snicket books. I also read The Wind Done Gone, a parody of Gone With the Wind by Alice Randall, Loose Lips by Rita Mae Brown, Outer Banks by Anne Rivers Siddons, and The Way Forward is Through a Broken Heart by Alice Walker over Christmas break. I just started Trans-Sister Radio by Chris A. Bohjalian today.

As far as favorite authors, I always return to Tom Robbins, Alice Walker, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morisson, Eudora Welty and Margaret Atwood again and again.

A great author!

I believe her name is Jane Green, she wrote Mr. Maybe and Jemima J. I have yet to read Mr. Maybe, but Jemima J. is so good! I gave it to one of my sisters and she finished it up in a day.

Some fun young authors: Elizabeth Young ("A Promising Man" & "Asking for Trouble") and Jennifer Weiner ("Good in Bed" and "In her shoes"); Jane Green ("Mr. Maybe" and "Bookends").

Pop authors I love: Tom Clancy (just read Red Rabbit); Nora Roberts (like the non-scary books); Mauve Binchey (sp?) (just read "Quentins"); Pat Conroy

Other books on my shelf waiting to be read: Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dolloway" (read it in HS, but saw THe Hours and now want to read it again); The Hours (see id.); Tolstoy's Anna Karenina (I LOVED "War and Peace").

My mom jokes that I'll read Comet bottles if I don't keep a good supply of books but I just love reading. I read a lot of really great books that were recommended on another thread in chit chat a few months ago including Rob Kean's "The Pledge."

Dave Eggers!!! His book "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" is AWESOME, as is his new one "You Shall Know Our Velocity." He is an amazing writer and I want to be just like him when I grow up -- hee hee.

I also like J.D. Salinger. He is probably the most brilliant writer of our time.
