Political Science Majors
I am currently a senior in majoring in political science. I would like to know if anyone is a political science major, if so what are or were you career plans, did you do any internships (if so where)? Did you do volunteer work? etc.
I have been doing a lot of research on careers in political science and I am unsure what I really want to do besides administrative work or something within governmental relations. I like to be creative, a great organizer for events, great interpersonal skills, likes to help others. I would really like to help homeless people, teen moms, unwed single mothers, children w/no health care or something dealing with human services.
My undergrad advisor for the political science department is so wacky, I am not even sure if he could help me. I have been in the process of going to different workshops held at my school that would be of great help in helping me choose, finding a mentor, and volunteering with various organizations.
I am not trying to pry in anyones business, I just would like to know since mostly everyone attends or has obtained a degree from a institution of higher education.

Questions:
What is/was your college major(s)? Political Science
What is/was your college minor(s)? History
FOR THE CURRENT STUDENTS
What do you plan to do with your major? End up going to law school, probably around where I live.
What internships have you pursued to better prepare yourself for the working world? I haven't done one yet. But, I am working on doing one in the fall of 2003, with Project Vote Smart.

Major: Interpersonal and organizational Communications
Minor:Spanish
Internship: I never had an official internship. But I did a lot of work on my campus. I was voted into a position in the student body where I was a Vice President of Programming in our student government for two years. So I was an event planner/agent/Student Activity board leader. I had to represent the student body a dinners, set up events and do contract work. But a lot of employers are looking past this.. because it was not an official internship.
Iam currently working as a cashier at a electronics store. Even thought this is not what I want to do with my degree I still use it. I work at customer service a lot. And spanish is nice because I can surprise people and I know what they are saying

Undergraduate Minor- Elementary Education
Graduate Major- Educational Technology
Future Ph.D. Program of Study- Instructional Technology
I think that for those people who are still in school, I recommend publishing an article and presenting at conferences. That is the easiest way to network and learn new skills. Also, getting work study /fellowships /internships /assitantships in your area would also be beneficial.
Good luck on those of you who are graduating or looking for graduate schools!
Peace and Blessings!

Major: Radio/TV
Minor:Broadcast Journalism
Graduation: May 03
I've been the Sports Director here on campus for the past year. I do play-by-play and color commentary for all sports. I just grew up playing all sports, and it's become one of my passions in life. I've interned at a small radio station, but didn't get to be involved with the sports programming which was unbearable. I found out my happiness in life is being near athletics. I'm lucky I found that out before I got out there and signed a contract doing something I'd hate. While I know I have to pay my dues, knowing what makes me happy will keep me striving. Internships are not only valuable for the experience but for the outlook it gives in on what you might or might not want to do for the rest of your life. Look out for me on ESPN, FoxSports, or on any sideline!
Best of wishes to all those striving for their dreams as well!

AFAM and Eng.
I just changed my major last week and I am absolutely thrilled to say I am now an African-American Studies major ( English minor) Because of the raggedy public school system, I didn't really start learning about the accomplishments of African-Americans (besides Dr. Martin Luther King jr and Rosa Parks during Black History Month) until college, and now I'm HOOKED. I LOVE it and I'm excellent at it! And I feel more people need to be educated in this area (including history, culture, sociological aspects, etc.) I struggled with the decision for a long time because I'm used to stability and security which you can have with nursing, primary and secondary education, business, etc. But I thought about what I really wanted to do and have stepped out on faith. I plan on getting my M.A. in English (African American Literature) from A&T, and then pursuing my Ph.D. This will combine two of my favorite things....EDUCATION and my CULTURE so that I can teach on the college level. There are so many things I want to do now like intern at the Smithsonian African Art Museum, Study abroad in Africa, and do more research. I am so excited!

KUDOS on following your HEART and not $$$$$.
May God grant you all the desires of your heart.
For we know not what you will discover, write, etc. etc. Go not where the path already is, set off and make your own path for others to follow.

Thank you Miseducated!!! I am looking to take the MCAT next year so any tips you could forward me would be greatly appreciated! I am going to a medical university next year initially to do an accelerated graduate nursing track to become a Nurse Practitioner, but I think I still want to become a doctor. I know it sounds crazy to go that far as a nurse, and then go to med school, but that's what I want to do. I also feel that if I stick with my original plan to graduate from MUSC as a N.P., then apply to MUSC's S.O.M., I would be among the 'preferred' applicants. I will definitely throroughly check this site out (probably when I am bored at work ), I just skimmed over it just now.
Did you watch the show "Med School" on the discovery channel? They followed students in all four years of med school through their first and last semesters. I really enjoyed that show!
Anyway, good looking out...and I will look forward to any info you could pass my way. My primary address is OneSavvyDiva@aol.com, or you could use the addy in my profile! Thanks!

Greetings to all,
My major in college was Business Administration and my minor was Computer Information Systems. I am currently employed as a Systems Specialist (E-Commerce) for a Telecommunications Company in the Midwest.
