Curiosity about different states...what does yours do?

I live in Arkansas, and here, all schools (high school, college, etc) start in mid August, and get out in mid May. Other regions(especially the north) go back much later and get out early.

For instance, I came back to ASU I think August 14th? And got done with finals December 10. I go back Jan. 4 and classes start on the 8th. I think the last day to move out of dorms for the year is May 8.

What about where YOU live? Discuss.

Boston U. gets into session at the beginning of September and ends in early/mid-May. I believe most of the Mass. area schools go on that schedule, except for those that are on tri-mesters or non-semester systems (like Northeastern. U.)

Connecticut schools get longer breaks than BU, but still are around the same schedule.

Guelph is very much the same. We start after labour day, and then start the second week in January (except for the Vet college which starts Jan 2nd...my roomie is a vet student) and we get out the middle of April (about the 17th or so...not sure). At Guelp the Vet students start earlier and get out later, but they have so much more to learn

I'm also from the province of Ontario.

Colleges here started mid august (19th) with the last day of finals being Dec 13. In Jan we go back the 6th and the last day of finals will be May 8th. Elem through high schools start the 2nd week of Aug and get out right before Memorial day (as long as they don't have too many snow days. That's pretty much the same schedule we have every year.

We usually do the mid-August thing at UK, but this year we didn't start 'til the end of August for some reason...meaning that the last day of finals wasn't 'til December 20. Next semester we start around the 15th of January and get out in early May, around the 8th or 9th, I think.

The public school system (K-12) is a little different...depending on the county, school will start in early to mid-August and go until late December (this year, my county was out on the 20th also), and then they start again soon after New Year's. The end of the year usually falls around late May or early June, but that all depends on the number of snow days there were during the year.

Where I grew up (New York), schools (K-12) started right after Labor Day and went through the end of June. In my part of Connecticut, school starts the week before Labor Day - I guess because there are often more snow days.

My university starts fall semester just after Labor Day. Finals are in mid-December. Spring semester starts at the beginning of February, and finals are in mid-May. There is also a short winter "semester" in January.
