Has anyone here either heard of Snake Bite or done it at their chapter?

I have never heard of that. If you don't want to post it on the forum, please PM me. Our chapter is looking for some new things to do.

Thanks,
Dove Gal

We called our weekly chapter newsletter 'Snake Bites' but I'm sure that's not what you're talking about

LOL We had some older members tease us on our initiation night.. No one said anything to me (they knew better ), but I know a couple of my pledge sisters actually brought band-aids to initiation.. It was an absolute riot!! Sooooo funny...They were good sports, though, and laughed along with us when they realized they didn't need them.

I just realized that I never posted what Snake Bite was, so I'll tell you all now. We had a Recruitment Advisor last year who was originally from a Southern Chapter, and I guess Snake Bite is really big down there. It's the social event that everyone wants an invite to and if you can pull it off, it's great PR and a whole lot of fun for your chapter.
Each sister makes a list of about 5 possible invites (# of invites really depends on chapter size and what you can afford I think). These could be men that you've had a crush on, are in your classes, or you just plain think are cute. Automatic invites are given to all Fraternity Presidents and Social Chairs. Other automatic invites can include your student Gov (pres, vice pres) Athletes, anyone with a big name you want at your party. Remember, these people will have a ton of fun and will talk about it later. Invites are given, probably on a monday, or other day when each fraternity has the most members there. About 5 women go to each house and announce which men only have invites. This makes peopl look forward to being on your list, as they are the only ones from each chapter invited. You'll want o rent a big enough space so that the party isn't too crowded. T-Shirts are bought for each of your dates that comes and you can decide to either tell them who invited them, or just let them guess. Most people would want to let their "dates" know, otherwise they will wonder who has a crush on them! But it's up to you!

I hope that I explained that well enough. If you have any question, feel free to ask away!

sounds pretty much like the crush parties we do/did at miami. although i like your idea better. inviting all he pres.'s & soc. chairs from each frat. i can just see how the invitation would look

you are cordially invited to attend the sigma kappa annual
snake bite party.
date/time/place/etc.

this party is exclusively for the sisters of sigma kappa and whomever they find worthy enough to attend. Please dress in proper party attire and be ready to have a great time.

yeah.....i like that idea.

You've got the idea. We were told a couple of different ways to do the invites, but this is the one that I like the best:
Have 4-5 women dress in nice black dresses (with candles optional - makes for quite an entrance I'm told!) Have one women announce the invitation and bring them on paper as well for the designated men.
"The women of Sigma Kappa would like to cordially invite the following members of XYZ to attend Snake Bite: Joe, Bob, Billy, etc..." Hand out the invitations (dress and date of event included) and leave. Classy, yet leaves the rest of the house wondering why they don't get to go!

The other thing that I forgot to mention: Snake Bite is also another name for a Tequila Shot, so an optional favor, as well as the shirt can be Shot glasses. This also can give ideas for the shirt.

Plus, this gives us an annual event to host every year. On Our campus there are huge date/crush events that everyone wants to go to, like Anchor Splash and Kite/Key Biad. If you do it right, Snake Bite can turn into that event for your campus.

Sounds good. I wonder what would happen if you did that on a campus where your chapter wasn't particularly big or recognized.. If you'd get scoffed at or actually make some good connections. Things to ponder.

That's exactly what we are wondering. We are not the bigest chapter on our campus, but after formal recruitment and Fall COB we expect to be at or very clost to total (90) we have 66 right now. The largest houses are at 85-99 and then we have some mid range houses with 60-75ish. There are a couple that are below that, but not many. Quota is usually around 20-30 and then COB (which we are pure geniouses at!) I think that our Greek Row is at a turning point and has been for about 5 years. Since my freshman year, the top and bottom houses have changed and are still changing. I believe that we can and will be one of those top houses within the next couple of years, not only with numbers, but in popularity too. We get our name out there much more than we used to and it does work. So now we want to see if Snake Bite will work for us, and as soon as we do it, I will tell ya'll how it went!
