Would it be wierd....
Would it be wierd to contact a buddy I havent seen of or heard from in about 7 years?
Blake and I were friends in HS. He was 2 years behind me and we kept in touch after I graduated. He ended up going to TCU (For some reason I think he went FIJI or Phi Delt) anyway, you all know how busy you get in your first year of school, and we lost touch. We werent super close friends, but we were on the same social scene, and he was a cool guy.
I'd like to get into touch with him to see whats up, how its all going and what he's doing now.
I dont have any contacts in my home town anymore.
(Although in a wierd 6 degrees of seperation kinda thing, turns out one of my fellow NM's in the house knew Blake. Their parents went to optometry school together. But they havent talked in about 15 years)
Well, today I was messing around on the internet at a public data website (I have access to the site for work and can look up peeps by their name, and get their address. SO I was typing in a few names of people I wondered what ever happened to and came across his addy.) He lives across the state, but I'd like to drop him a note with my email address so he can let me know whats going on in his life and we can keep in touch.
My concerns are as follows:
1. I dont want him to think I am a stalker or anything. How do I answer the question, "Howd you get my address?" "Easy, was stalking you on-line."
2. Would you be glad to hear from an old friend, even if you havent heard from them in 7 or 8 years? Or would it be wierd?
Thanks....

No I don't think it's weird. You could say:
Hey Blake! Long time no talk to! I was talking to a NM the other day and we realized we both knew you. I did a search on the Internet and came across your e-mail addy and just wanted to drop you a few lines to see what was going on in your world.
Write back when you get a chance.

Hey if he is Greek, maybe he is on GC as well.

I don't think it would be weird. The only thing that might be tricky is explaining how you found his address...but honestly, I don't think it's a big deal. I used to have access to a database where you could get *anyone's* address and social security number (even famous people -- I'm sure I still have Kobe Bryant's info. lying around somewhere) and I would look up people I know all the time just because, like you, I was curious.
If someone contacted me, I wouldn't be weirded out by it at all and would probably think it was cool, as long as I liked the person and it wasn't a psycho. ex or anything... So I say go for it, and if you do, let us know if he ever gets back to you...I'm curious!

I don't think it would be weird at all. The girl I was best friends with in 4th and 5th grade just emailed me a couple of weeks ago. I was so surprised!! But in a good way.

Are you cute?
If not, I'd prolly call you a stalker and then get a restraining order to keep you away from me.

Thanks for your input. I talked to a friend and she reccomended something along the lines of CrimsonTide's suggestion. Tell him that his name came up and heard he was in Dallas and I looked him up in the white pages (he is there - I looked today) and I decided to drop him a line.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Another wierd twist of fate... he lives one block over from my bitch ex. Small world eh?

It's always awesome to hear from an old friend.
One of my old friends just recently contacted me after hearing about all the craziness that I had gone through not too long ago, and it was a trip. I haven't talked to this kid in like 5 years and he calls me up (now living in Chicago) and I find out he is married and has a baby on the way. We are planning to meet up sometime soon and I think it will be a good thing. In another twist of craziness I may be moving to the chicago area pretty quickly and when I told him that he flipped.
So I say, DO IT! lol Seize the moment man, life is too short to bullshit and beat around the bushes, take the chance, go that extra step, word!
