Talking Floats, Pomping and Stickyness!

I dont know how many of you have homecoming floats, but we do... Our homecoming is during our Autumn Leaf Festival (its big, Clarion - tiny town, pop 7000, student pop 7000 - quadruples its size, you have to reserve hotels a year or so in advance) we even get Thurs and Fri off of school...

Well this year our float is with Theta Chi, and like a half hour away from town! Ugh! Well I was the only one with a truck to get the ladder to the place, so I got roped into float hours tonite... (Im technically not allowed to do them cos Im on AP) I had so much fun!!!!!

Im covered in glue and hairspray - but we had the best convos... Steph and her Freud, Me and my "History of Fraternities and Sororities..." and then random talks on how dumb hazing is, and somehow sex came into play... we had a great time!

Is anyone else making a float now?

In both high school and college, I have been CHEATED out of getting to make a homecoming float. Homecoming parades ended a few years before my high school days, and my college has no football team, hence a very weak, floatless Homecoming (now called Fall Fest).

It makes me very sad because I feel I would excel at float design.

We just finished our float for First Friday which is the day before the first home football game of the season. Sororities make a float with a certain theme common for everyone and then march behind it in a parade and chant their cheers in front of the entire town. The whole town shows up to watch it along with the entire school. Its a hgue competition and we crown a Miss First Friday as well....kinda like homecoming at most other places. We just finished with our float on that and I am so sick of pomping and all that other stuff and we didn't even win! How sad but we had a lot of fun in the parade

We don't have floats. We have a banner contest. Ours is really cool this year. We are playing the Hornets so it is a spray can of insecticide. Also two of my sisters have been nominated for homecoming queen! This is a big honor since our school's homecoming is based solely upon interview with faculty and personal accomplishments, so the GLOs and other orgs that sponsor nominees make every effort to choose qualified women. One is the nominee of our chapter and the other is the Sigma Nu nominee! And I am going with a Pike to homecoming! fun..... I wish we did have a parade. However, I bet our chapter will do a float for the mock convention our school hosts every 4 years. (ok, so it's not until 2004.... hehe!)

How does homecoming court selection work at your schools? At W&L every GLO sponsors a nominee as well as some other social and service orgs like Minority Students Assoc. and SAIL (an International Students Assoc).

We aren't working on ours now, but my friend who's a DU up in Minnesota is working on theirs. (Actually, I think that in Minnesota they make gigantic decorations to put out in the front yards of the fraternities, but it's the same kind of deal -- tons of pomping.) I'm so jealous of him -- I had so much fun at my high school Homecomings and I'm already looking forward to this year's Homecoming at college.

Our Homecoming game isn't until the 19th, I think, but for the Greeks Homecoming activities start tomorrow!
