Why DZ?
I'm just curious - what made you choose Delta Zeta over the other groups on your campus, and what is the best part of being in Delta Zeta?

good question!
I chose Delta Zeta because the chapter had the most down-to-earth women. I could feel their sincerity during Rush, and it stood out strongly because, although the other groups were nice to me, the smiles and conversation weren't as genuine as they were at the DZ parties.
I could be myself around the DZ sisters, and I felt comfortable with them. That's what made me choose DZ after Prefs.

I chose DZ over the other groups on my campus because of the way they treated each other-both in and out of recruitment activities. The had an obvious sincere bond-they were truly friends-not just "sisters" because they were labeled that way by virtue of their membership in the same group, but sisters because they actually felt that way. I could tell that the women who wore those letters were real--not just beauty queens or bookworms (my chapter had both, and everything in between), and they did not care one lick about the labels that others put on them.
They did not treat me like a conquest-something to be "won" at the expense of the other sororities on campus. They treated me like a person worthy of getting to know on a personal level. And that is a hard thing to do within the span of a rush party. They did not say "pick DZ, we are the best," but they said "If DZ is the best place for you, you will never regret your decision to become one of our sisters." They told me that I would learn how to shine, and be given the opportunity to do so often....
That remains the best part about being a DZ to me. I meet DZs everywhere I go, and no matter where they are from, there is a warmth and dignity that impresses me almost every time. Funny how these things stayed with me--even more than a decade after I pledged!

I'm going to dinner with someone tonight to learn more about DZ. I'm excited, and a little nervous. The excited part is definitely winning out though. I'm so glad I didn't have the stress of formal recruitment after seeing what my roommate went through!
I love hearing ya'll's stories. Keep 'em coming! I need all the input I can get!
Have a great semester!

Have a good time at dinner tonight! I think it's great that you're interested in learning more about Delta Zeta. Be sure to have your friend tell you about our national philanthropy, Gallaudet University. It's a university for the hearing and speech impaired, and Delta Zeta members have contributed thousands of hours and dollars to it over the years.
When I attended Convention in July, I was so excited to see the Gallaudet dancers perform for us! They are all deaf, and are able to dance by feeling vibrations from the music in the floor of the stage. They were amazingly talented! Never once were they out of step with the music! And I was proud to learn that DZ had contributed the funds which purchased the costumes that the dancers wore during their performance!

Crystal,
I am actually one of the girls that is meeting you tonight! I'm very excited! Here is the answer to your question...
When I went through Rush, I wanted a sorority that was involoved in their community and that had GREAT sisterhood. Delta Zeta had never let me down! I love being apart of such an awesome orgainization.
I can also honestly say that I know all of my sisters' first and last names and that I have funny and touching stories to tell about each one! We are a great chapter with strong sisterhood and community involvement. We also have won several awards this past year (I'll be sure and tell you more about tonight!)
I can't wait to meet you! Don't be nervous...we're really nice!
Much MTSU love,
Blaire

I had the pleasure of meeting Blaire at Convention this summer, so I can ASSURE you that she's nice! If all of her chapter sisters are like her, then you'll have a wonderful time tonight!

I'm excited about tonight! I just found out that a girl I grew up with pledged DZ last week even though she was a legacy for another group. She's such an awesome girl. I can't wait to meet everyone!

Hey girls!!! Just wanted to say that I really liked the girls I met tonight. They were all really sweet and easy to be with, and they had me constantly laughing. I felt very at ease, and I asked them the same question - Why DZ? I was impressed with the honesty of their answers. (Nikki you cracked me up!) I had some questions that were answered just by observing the girls. Keep your fingers crossed! I'll let ya'll know when I hear.... something!

Hey ladies! I just wanted everyone to know what a great time I had last night! Crystal, you are a wonderful girl and I am glad that I had the pleasure of meeting you! I promise everything will work out in the end!
Dzrose93 (Carrie) thank you for your kind words! The pic we took together has it's own little page in my scrapbook and everyone who sees it wants to know the "story" behind it!
Y'all have a great semester and keep this board alive!
In the flame,
Blaire
