I'd never heard of serenading until I joined ASA... and I also never knew that we sang dirty songs until I actually went serenading... none of the fraternities really did anything that stuck out in my mind... the one thing that stuck out was the words of the songs... not that I didn't enjoy every minute of it I just didn't realize what we were singing until I got there...

One thing that got a great response from the ladies was a few years back... We sang Green Day's "Time of Your Life" (I don't know if that's the real song name). I busted out my fiddle for a little solo on it. They loved it (of course)

one fraternity had two of their men sing a duet and pull two of our pledges on toheir knee at that time.....several fraternities on my campu give a rose to one woman at each house when they go serenading. other than that, what i remember is the songs they sing.

When we serenade, I think that one thing that separates my house from others is that we only sing Beta songs. We have some very specific ones that only work for serenading. Rather than learning popular songs I think it makes a bigger impression to be able to have all the brothers sing a song that the girls have never heard (unless they are upper class(wo)men...even then they may have only heard it a couple of times.)

Oh my god, guys! Would you please knock some sense into the fraternities at my school!! We don't get serenaded (basically, the sororities on my campus are strong, but the fraternities are really weak...well, they just suck. 2 have lost their charters in the last 2 and a half years). The only time we get serenaded is during Derby Days when the Sigma Chis go to every sorority house and sing their sweetheart song. Sometimes the Pi Kapp pledges will come and serenade us, but other than that - nothing. I really wish my school had decent fraternities!

Yeah we are going to give a rose to each girl of each sororities pledge class, we are doing like 6 houses. And so far we are singing "dream girl of theta chi", "I would walk 500 miles", and "Got my mind set on you". It should be fun, I'll let you all know how it goes!!!

If you incorporate the sorority name into the song... we loved that. Also, it is nice if the new members intoduce themselves ("Hi, I'm _____. I'm from Kansas City... etc...). And remember to bring a bouquet or a teddy bear or something for the president.
