Surprising disappointment

Just learned my Bama-bound niece is not planning to go through rush.

Mind you, neither would I at Bama, but then, I'm not a large state school kind of person.

I'm surprisingly disappointed. It would have been my first time writing a recommendation that would have really mattered.

I'm also pleased she knows what she wants - or doesn't want.

My daughter is due to graduate from high school this spring. She isn’t sure about rushing. I have so many emotions about it. Just saying…I get it…although my sorority did away with legacy consideration, which also makes me have so many emotions.

While rushing is a choice at the end of the day, it would have been fun to watch her go through rush! Who knows, maybe she can do informal recruitment if she doesn't do formal rush.

My oldest granddaughter will be starting college a year from August. I actually don't care whether she rushes because of all the crap that sororities are forcing on their members. (Though not without repercussions, praise the Lord.)

I do want her to get involved in some strong campus activities in which she can find "her people".

Carnation

I'm interested in what member expectation that you are referencing?

Its been 6+ years since I was an advisor to a collegiate chapter and 9 years since my youngest was in undergrad. I was very alarmed at amount of fundraising and free labor the members were pushed to complete. Is your opinion in this area or something else?
