What are you oftenly mistaken as?
I'm oftenly mistaken as:
*A 12 year old (I'm small and don't wear make-up that often).
*An introvert (I'm quiet around people who I don't know well or uncomfortable with). That couldn't further from the truth, I love being around people, I'm just shy at times.
*Hispanic, Arabic, Indian, or as a Pacific Islander (Don't ask, I can't answer, because I see no resemblances).
*Stuck-up (probably related to the second one).
*Really smart.
*Or, really dumb.
*Non-agressive.
*Bulemic/anorexic (kinda skinny). That also is far from the truth, when I'm not stressed, I eat a lot! I just have a very good metabolism. Also, when I go to the restroom after I eat, it's to wash my hands (I hate greasy/sticky fingers), not to vomit.

People always say I am younger than my sister, and she's 3 years younger.
I guess I'll be happy when I'm 30 and get mistaken for 27!
lol,
M

That happens to me now! lol! I am so happy when people think that I am the youngest when I am actually the oldest by one and almost four years.

People think i'm 21, eventhough I'm 26. It's a good thing though.

When on the phone sometimes I get called ma'am or they ask if my parents are home so I talk with deeper voice now. Sometimes I forget myself though and my voice gets high. People make fun of me for it.

The key words being MISTAKEN for...
Age-I look younger than I am.
Ethnicity-I am not as dark as when I was younger, but I've been asked if I was Indian, Creole, Spanish, just plain "foreign". The term frequently used was exotic. (I'm a mix of German, French and Irish)
Anti-establishement- Well, yes and no. It drives people WILD when they think something is sooooooooo important and to you, it's rather trite. I'm not ANTI too many things. I just have different priorities.
A Democrat-I argue for the "little" people, so I guess I really AM ANTIestablishment! LOL

I am mistaken for...
...Being 16. It's okay, I don't mind it, but I think some people do it just to be annoying.
...Moroccan. I don't know why.
...Conservative. I don't understand this one either--I grew up in a really tight area of the country, but my parents aren't very conservative at all. When I came to school, based on my dress alone (think Charlotte from SATC), a lot of people thought I was going to be some super-conservative. They were surprised.

I'm sometimes mistaken for being Hispanic, Italian, or Indian (as in, from India).
I'm often mistaken for being a couple of years older than I am. This was sweet when I was 19 or 20 and wanted to order a drink but now it's not quite as pleasant...

I'm mistaken for :
-age: when I turned 23, I had more people tell me that I looked 15, 18, and 19. People at the hospital would ask me if I was old enough to work there. On a flight, a flight attendant asked if I was over 15, because I was sitting in the exit isle.
-ethnicity: people, just because I live in Texas and have brown hair and olive skin does not mean I'm Hispanic!! I have nothing against Hispanics, but I am sick people at work assuming I speak Spanish and looking shocked when I tell them I can't. I'm Italian dammit, we have olive complexions, too
Ok, thats about it...

Some misconceptions about me...
- I am from the Northeast...because being in the South and not having a southern accent, people assume that you must be from the northeast. Most people assume Philly for some reason.
- I am Hispanic. Especially when I am around my roommate because we speak Spanish when we don't want people to understand (not the best idea, being in Florida, lol).
Ummm...there are more, but I will have to try to remember.

People always think I'm Italian or Greek (I'm Cuban).
I'm usually mistaken for being younger as well.

I think we must be twins!! I get the same thing all the time...both the age and the ethnicity. I had a doctor ask me if I was a high school volunteer!! Umm....no...I am a college graduate look at my badge.
I have been mistaken for being shy as well. Not really shy but more reserved. I'm only quiet when I'm uncomfortable and completely out of my element...I'm usually pretty talkative. A lot of people that think I'm this way are the ones that are most shocked if they see me out drinking or if they hear me use "less than lady-like" language. They're like "wow...you're pretty fun...I had no idea you were cool." I made good grades in college as well and people assumed that I must have stayed home all the time and studied. No, I didn't...I had a very full social schedule, thank you. Just because someone makes good grades and isn't always trying to be the center of attention doesn't mean they're a bookworm or not fun. Ugh.

Mistakes people make about me:
Ethnicity - I am often mistaken for being Greek, Jewish or Middle-Eastern. I guess it's the dark hair and eyes. I am actually Italian/Polish.
Age - Telemarketers are always asking to speak to my mom because I have a little girl-ish voice.
They sometimes think I'm a teenage mom - When we first moved to the area, we lived in a hotel suite that didn't have on-site laundry so I took my then 5-month old daughter with me to the laundromat. I had no makeup on and wasn't wearing my wedding ring and was sitting there waiting for my clothes to dry when an older woman came up to me and gave me a flier advertising free classes young, unwed mothers could take to study for the G.E.D.
I'm a Democrat - Because I grew up in Pittsburgh in a family of union members, people often assume I am a Democrat which is about as far from the truth as you can get
