sooo nervous!!!

Okay, so I was just initiated this past spring through C.O.B., so I'm not familiar with the whole recruitment process. That being said, we've all been practicing for all the different parties for the past week and a half, basically working ourselves to death. But last night our alumnae chapter came so that we could practice preffing them and I was talking to a woman and I got so nervous, I couldn't think of anything to say and I just started crying! Earlier in the week, I had been practicing with one of my sisters and I started crying then too, but I had been sick and I was stressed out, so I figured that was the main reason why I did that. But anyway, I ran out of the room crying, and my sis-mom came out there and hugged me and then our chapter advisor came out too and she was like, "If you are getting too upset about it, then you don't have to do it." So now I feel terrible because I'm scared and nervous but I don't want to not be a part of Recruitment... have any of you ever been in my shoes before? I need some words of wisdom from you older squirrels!!

Loyally,
Abby

Abby,

Don't worry, you're not the only one who has had a hard time talking to people at the parties. I started out dreading Rush because I had to initiate conversations, keep them going, and I just pray that I didn't ruin it. But honestly, the thing that helped me was the fact that this girl might potentially be my sister-daughter so it might be important for me to find out what kind of vibe I got from her. Not to mention, making them laugh is a surefire way to make you and your rushee relax and have fun (just a one-liner comment works).

I can tell you that Rush is a positive experience in two ways: you choose the very best women to be a part of AGD and the people/communication/networking skills you pick up will help you so much in your career after graduation.

Push yourself beyond your comfort zone and I promise it'll get easier.

LIEP.

Don't worry! It's tough practicing on someone that you haven't "connected" with! During Recruitment, you will probably connect with that women who you just know would be the perfect sister and perhaps even your Sister-Daughter! With that connection, conversation will be much easier!

I try to remember something they told us in Instructor school...

The audience hasn't read your script so if you forgot what you had practiced, say what is in your heart!! (Okay, they didn't say the heart part, lol.)

Just remember, YOU are the Alpha Gamma Delta!! And THEY want what you (we!) have!

Keep breathing!!

LiEP,
Lynn
