I think that you should, as long as you have the time and dedication to give to a sorority. One of the girls in our new member class last year was a senior with 2 years left and we never hesitated in giving her a bid because we loved her and she had so much to give to our chapter. Our last years pledge class also had several juniors. I really encourage youi to rush!

Hey Ali's roomie!

I say totally go for it! I am a Junior with 2 years left at school, and I'm doing informal this far. They way I figure, why should you spend the rest of your life sitting around wondering if you should do it or not? Even to just rush and see what it's all about. Give it a try... it couldn't hurt!

Go for it!!

I pledged 2nd semester junior year, am older than my big, and will graduate with people plenty of pledge classes ahead of me.

Nonetheless, this was the best decision I ever made, so go for it!

I think you should go for it. If joining a sorority is something that you want to do, then you should. You get out of a sorority what you put into it...someone who's only there for a year or two can have a much more worthwhile experience than someone who was there for four.

When I pledged I was 17 and one of my pledge sisters was 27...we had the oldest and youngest members in one pledge class. And this past semester we had someone pledge who was 28, married, and pregnant. Even though she was only in for a semester, she is a sister nonethless and is going to be active in the alum chapter.

Personally my motto is you're never too old. If you don't do it you'll look back in a few years regretting that you didn't go through recruitment.

When I was an undergrad, my campus didn't have any greeks. When I came back to school 7 years later and finally finished my BA in 1998 the only greeks were Black or Latina based. Finally in 2000 Phi Sigma Sigma came to campus looking to start a new chapter. I worked on campus and spoke to the extension team about the sorority to get info for the women in the program I worked for. The representative I talked to asked me if I was interested. I told her I was a Grad student and her response was so. Then I told her I was in my 30's and she explained about how Phi Sigma Sigma was open to all women regardless of student standing, age, race, etc. I went to some recruitment parties and thought long and hard about joining a sorority in my 30's. I finally said the heck with it, I had always wanted to be in a sorority and continued on with recruitment. I became a founding sister of the Iota Gamma Chapter at the age of 33. i have never once regretted it.

My chapter ranges in age from 18 year old freshman up to 37 year old grad students with everyone represented in between. Some of our strongest sisters are transfer students who are juniors and seniors.

I strongly encourage you to go through recruitment. I think you'll find it was one of the best decisions of your life.

Carolyn

I think you should definitely go for it; what do you have to lose?

By the way, I got to meet Ali in Pittsburgh last month; she's absolutely adorable

Sandy,

I pledged when I was a transfer student, making me a junior, and 28. So I instantly became the oldest (in age) sister upon initiation! I will be thirty next April. Do I mind? NOPE! I wouldn't change a thing.

I say, GO FOR IT!!! I think you will find that you will find that you won't regret the decision that you made.... Let us know what you decided.
