Ice breakers
Since there are so many posts about what is apropriate/non-apropriate to talk about during rush, I was wondering if anyone had any good ice breakers, conversation starters, or topics to talk about, either as a rusher or rushee? What types of topics would impress a PNM or sister. Say I love to talk about movies (which I do... hehe). I can always tell what kind of a person someone is by the movies they watch. I guess it's all about starting with a topic, and narrowing down to common ground... so anybody have any good experiances with certain topics? Please share!

A cute Ice Breaker we like to use is the Fruit and Veggie Name Game.
Basically everyone has to say their name and a fruit or vegetable that begins with the first letter of their first name.
ie. Beth-Banana, Lisa-Lime, Tina-Tomato, etc.
The trick is that once you say your name and fruit/veggie, then you have to go back through everyone else's name and fruit/veggie, that's gone before you.
There's absolutely no copying... Everyone must come up with something new and original for their name.
(for those of you with a lot of J names, think of Jumping beans, Japanese cucumbers, etc.)
Hope this helps!
Fraternally,
Beth-Banana

As an Ice-breaker during rush, we seperate until groups, and have tons of funny random questions on the cards, and we all draw a card and answer the question, of course if the PNM doesn't want to answer they don't have too. I have not only learned about the PNMs but my sisters too. As sisters we always try to come up with funny answers that way it puts the PNMs to ease a little bit. hope that helps.

Our group doesn't participate in formal recruitment but we have lots of ice breaker games. There is one game we always play at the first event and it takes many forms. It originally started as the Toilet paper game but then evolved to the candy game. Basically you have a roll of toilet paper, you don't tell anyone what you are gonna do with it but insist that everyone take as much or as little toilet paper. It can be one square or a lot of squares. For each square of toilet paper you have, you have to say something interesting about yourself: your name, place of residence, and major don't count. This can take very lil time or a LONG time. Candy game is similar only you are given a handfull of MnMs and for every say green and yellow MnM you have, you say one thing about yourself. Etc etc... be warned tho... we did this at one event and for some reason girls couldn't think of anything to say and we were there for about an hour with a lil over 35 girls. But it's an idea. maybe do it in smaller groups.

I've used the toilet paper game, many, MANY times (almost every college organization I've ever been in!). I heard that the M&M game was used by one sorority during last formal rush. It was something like every yellow you had to name a person who influenced you, for every blue a favorite song, etc.. I don't want to sound like a dork, but I love icebreaker games... you get to know so much about other ppl, and get to share things about yourself!
