Smile New Pledge!!! Help! =)

ok as you all know I accepted a bid into Sigma Kappa! Should I be too concerned with pledging? Could someone please share some examples of pledging? Or is that something that is normally shared? I feel completely clueless when it comes to Greek Life?! I have been searching and what not, and I ask my sisters things but for me it still hasn't clicked. Should I be concerned or am I worrying too much? I want this to be the MOST positive and "real" experience and not something I do for the wrong reasons?! Are there things a new pledge should definitely know!? I accepted this bid without meeting other chapters because I just felt most comfortable with this group of girls? Any help/advice would be much appreciated! =)

I didn't even know what a pledge mom was until a few days ago? Am I destined to be clueless forever! Iowa can other active members speak of pledging? Will there be parties and what not? Thanks a ton! =)

i am not a sigma kappa but i can tell you a bit about my pledging experience, which was last winter. i was not hazed at all, but other sororities on my campus had minor hazing... things such as "expected" drinking, push-ups, etc. if there was hazing at other sororities, it was not a huge ordeal, and no one depledged on my campus because of it.

we got matched up with our big sisters, and they gave us gifts in secret for a week before revealing who they were.

each week we had a pledge education meeting where we learned about our sorority's history and things like that. we were never tested on it, since that can be considered hazing.

we attended most of the weekly chapter meetings, but some parts you aren't allowed to see until you've been initiated.

of course, we got to go to our mixers and parties, and we had a pledge formal where our big sisters set us up with surprise dates.

hi Kimmi!
Congratulations on becoming a new member of a wonderful sorority!!!!!!!!

That said....just breathe deep and relax! You are not supposed to already have all the answers! Your sorority experience will unfold before you, and will be a beautiful complement to all the other experiences you are going through now...

living away from home and parents, going to college, etc. Sigma Kappa will be your home, and as a "home" it will be a refuge for fun and sisterhood and love. so.... don't jump the gun and make it into a place of stress and anticipation. Your "pledge mom" or "new member educator" or big sis will be there to lead through everything and answer all your questions. You are now a part of an organization with decades of history, and everything will happen for you at the right time.

So just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Congrats on getting into a sorority, kimmi!!! twinstars, we are going to have big sisters too, and i was just wondering how it worked. do you give your big sis presents too cuz i think i would feel a little bad if i got gifts for a week and didn't give anything back in return. i was just wondering because the sorority experience is new to me too :-)
