Same at my undergrad, though we were up north and you can't really get away with loafers or Toms when there's snow on the ground, as there tended to be during our recruitments.
CyanSun15, if there is going to be snow where you are going to college, make sure your boots are waterproof. There's nothing worse than wearing your cute boots around campus after the first snow and realizing that they are not waterproof.
Additionally, definitely take IndianaSigKap's advice and invest in a long coat that goes down to your mid-thigh or knee (depending on height). Recruitment or not, that will help keep you warm during the winter!
