Ghost Lines

I recently ran into a member of our organization....but after talking to him for a minute, I come to find out that he was part of a "ghost" line...no name, no number, no paper....if you run into a indivdual like that, do you treat them as a member of your organization? Just curious as to what other greeks say on this.....

As far as I'm concerned....

No paperwork = not a member

Not a member = not treated like a member

If that person unknowingly went underground and had no idea they weren't official, that person needs to contact NHQ to see if the chapter can be held accountable.

If that person knowingly went underground and knew it was all unofficial and didn't care, sucks to be that person. Don't wear official symbols of the GLO and definitely don't walk around claiming to be a member. Might end up getting snatched.

DrPhil, I see that side of it, I also see the side of it that they went through the same rits and just got caught up in some administrative stuff....it's a slippery slope in my opinion

I understand being empathetic and sympathetic. However, how do you know they went through the same rits? How do you know they just got caught in some administrative stuff?

As far as I'm concerned, the slippery slope is when individual members listen to the stories of "ghosts" and grant exceptions. There are different sides to every story and that includes the sides that discount the "ghosts". I've heard many Duck Tales so I no longer listen to people's stories. Tell them to contact NHQ and move on. Those of us who worked hard to become members and work hard to maintain active membership shouldn't tolerate people who attempt to get the perks without the work.

She was that ghost chapter chick that was running all around the inter webs with pinky up pictures including one in front of the Alpha chapter stained glass window at Howard U. To say the internet blew up when she was outed is an understatement.

I understand....but that's kinda like saying non financial members aren't members too Dr. Phil. I knew a dude in Virginia , his line was underground, but since he didn't have paper, they accused him of perping. Thank God it got cleared up by his prophytes.....the absence of evidence, is not the evidence of absence. But I agree with you that individual members make that assessment who they see as frat or not.

For some GLOs, including some NPHC GLOs, nonfinancial people are not "members" in an official sense. Membership is not only about initiation. It is a financial obligation. The biggest humbler is when people think "lifetime commitment" means wearing symbols, remembering rit, and hanging with Sorors and frat for an eternity----and then they find themselves unable to access certain information and unable to participate in certain events. Boom.

APA_Lost, is your username a coincidence? If it isn't, contact the GLO's NHQ and stop pleading your case on GC.
