For a sec there I was like WHAAAA, I didn't blame a particular sorority for some stupid rule... and then the light bulb went on. Funny!

For those who may be interested, the DPHIE colonization recruitment schedule is posted on their Facebook page. They will be tabling and having info sessions for the next several days. An invite only pref event will be held next Wednesday evening. Our fabulous IHQ staff and some wonderful alumnae will be in Bloomington this week and next. They are super excited to meet the wonderful women of IU! Interested women do need to schedule an interview at bedphie.com. I've only been involved with DPhiE as an alumna for a few months, but I have never met so many outstanding women before or had such wonderful opportunities before. I really encourage women to consider this opportunity and check it out.

I just want to summarize a lot that has gone on in this thread: I hope all PNM's are open to non-housed chapters, HOWEVER, non-housed chapters will not solve the issue of non-placement. Even three unhoused chapters won't get the system anywhere close to accommodating 1900 PNM's. Some chapters are allowing senior live-outs, and that's a huge step in the right direction, so hopefully that trend will continue.

I agree. I wish they would take the plunge and increase their pledge classes by even 10%. That wouldn't even allow for all seniors living out but would start to test the waters of change. And they'd survive and find their balance, with all of the seniors living out or even half, which would make a difference.

To my sisters at IU: BE THE CHANGE. You can still be awesome and selective while taking 10 or 15 more girls. We're not asking for pledge classes of 100 after all.

Bid distribution
I asked about dorm neighborhoods because anecdotally it goes back farther than the rush events to why do they self select to certain dorm neighborhoods ? I'm from Indy and I have seen for many years that the type of girl that knows she wants to live in northwest Are the ones who end up in the sororities. I've wondered how do they self select like that? Why/how did your daughters choose their dorm neighborhood? Yes, So many happy girls in those pix...but look at them like a research person, don't they all/most have a certain look ...yeah yeah. Long hair is common to this age group, but like sticks with like. I'm not saying this is true for everyone but an interesting pattern and of course we don't have pix of the "bid less girls" for a pattern there. All sororities don't match up to the "party girl" stereotypes but many do... "Popularity of houses seems to mirror some of the same attributes of the " popular crowd" at your high school...and believe me not everything they do is something you want your daughter doing on a regular basis ...same as that crowd in high school.

Well, we actually are asking for pledge classes of 100. To accommodate 1900 women, 22 chapters (with the new DPhiE colony) would have to take about 86 NMs each. The numbers of PNMs are just going up so if they go to full implementation of RFM, unless more groups come aboard, there is no stopping them from hitting those huge NM class sizes. Half measures are just like trying to sweep the problem under the bed.

Only 1600 made grades to report to the first round which is about the same as other years, I believe. So if all 21 chapters this year had taken 60 women, 1260 women would have gotten bids which is 78% of the women who made grades. If each chapter had taken 70 women, 1470 women would have gotten bids for 91% placement.

Live out seniors and increased pledge classes

I hope those of you with good access to data can figure out if these ARE indeed larger pledge classes than last year. I'm especially curious of the PClass size of AXO since someone said on here that they are now allowing senior live outs. If half a pledge class lives out that could be 20new slots but would it show up this year? Any other new live out situations. But if only 5 of the 21 still forbid live outs then that increase is not enough to meet the needs.

And I agree with most of the posters here that the "house" advantage/fun could be spread around to more girls if they didn't all live there all years. The concept of Cold dorms is quite old fashioned.

Which 4 sororities are missing from IU? AST, Phi Sig… ?

Have any of the 4 presented there recently? Have any openly refused to attempt to colonize at UI until the system is changed?

Just curious.
