I Need Help! INFORMAL RECRUITMENT!
Hello everyone,
Informal Recruitment begins at FSU in a couple weeks and I am asking for help so that this recruitment will be successful. I rushed formal in the fall and dropped during the night before Preference. I was completely devastated. I am hoping this recruitment will be much better. I don't know the number the sororities that will be there but I know that it should be significant since apparently they're upping the quota this year to 80 and I believe the highest any sorority took in was 76.
I will take any and all advice. I would love to hear past experiences since I have never met anyone who has been through the process or who has rushed someone during spring. Please help. I can't imagine going through fall recruitment again.

There is no way that anyone here can tell you what you will need to do to have a successful recruitment. We weren't there, we don't know you, we don't know why you dropped before Pref, so how can we possibly know what to advise?

And they don't raise quota. They raise chapter total, which is WAY over 80. When total is raised it should mean half of the chapters are over total and half under (or so - it's an average). BUT some/many of the chapters could only need 1 or 2 members to be back up to total. If that's the case, they likely already have those 2 girls chosen, or have it narrowed down to a select number of girls they already know.
That's not to say you shouldn't be enthusiastic about informal rush, just that you shouldn't plan on every chapter taking 4 members. Some will take 0, some 1 and a couple will probably take maybe even 10. And getting your hands on the exact numbers will be an exercise in futility. They won't tell you and anyone who purports to have specifics is either lying, stupid or a mix of naive and gossipy. So in short, prepare your conversation skills, get your new recs in (they don't keep them), and don't count your chickens.

Plus, FSU has the whole dynamic of just having colonized AOII, so that could have impacted total, too.

Sorry, I guess what I was thinking about was total. I have been told that the average was raised. Thank you for the advice. Do you have any tips for getting recs when NO ONE you directly know is an alum?

there are a billion threads here that address that issue. Do the reading and you'll get some ideas. But knowing AOII just colonized (I forgot that part), if they did it true to what I've been seeing lately, they probably took quite a bit less than total to allow for an almost second round of colony members (they're probably a chapter now, not a colony, but I think you get what I'm saying). So in short, don't underestimate their value, but also don't assume you're a shoo in. It is especially important for new chapters to choose members carefully or they could end up with a disjointed mess.

There could be a number of variables (which we don't know) that ccould have impacted your recruitment, recs and HS grades (if you are a freshman) included. Hopefully your grades this past semester are good as those will be the new benchmark. For conversational skills and advice, search GC for an excellent thread by APhiAnna.

You dropped out of recruitment prior to pref? So why did you drop out? or did you mean to say that you were dropped by all of the chapters prior to Pref?

AOII colonized at total and did no informal recruitment afterwards. They should be in the same boat as the other chapters.

Oh, so there you go. I've noticed over the last couple years that colonies seem to be taking 10% or so below their possible max. With a chapter that size, 10% is a significant number of gals.
