Rushing at EKU
Hi! I'm planning on re-rushing at EKU this fall as a sophomore. I currently have no recommendation letters or connections at any of the chapters(save a legacy that didnt help me much last fall), so I was wondering how competitive recruitment is for sophomores at EKU? If anyone has any insight on recruitment at EKU, I would be very grateful. Thank you!

OK. Let me understand this. You rushed last year, have still not made a single friend in any group, are a legacy to one ut haven't proven it to them by getting legacy letter sent and still don't have recs. Why would you think anything could help you at this point? I'm not being snarky - am just trying to understand from whence you come.

If EKU is one of those campuses where recs. are important (and I have no idea, but you should), you need to have new recs. for this year's rush. Sororities do not hang on to recs. from the previous year. Since you had an unsatisfactory recruitment last year, I hope you have evaluated why you might not have been successful, and have tried to make some changes. I do understand that EKU will have an upperclass quota, so that is one plus.
In addition, if you are a legacy to a sorority that has a chapter at EKU, the person who you are a legacy through needs to let the chapter know that you are a legacy that will be rushing. Many sororities have legacy forms that their members should fill out for the PNM, otherwise, the chapter has no idea that the PNM is a legitimate legacy. Your mentioning during a conversation at a rush party that your mother, g. mother, sister, aunt, whomever is an ABC has no merit if she does not let the chapter officially know.
In addition, you need to be open to membership in ANY of the chapters at EKU. If your dream chapter does not invite you back for round 2, the best thing you can do for yourself is pick a new #1 from the sororities that did invite you back, and keep doing that as need be.

OP, if your relative did not send in the legacy form to that chapter at EKU, then the chapter had no idea you were a legacy. I would spend the next two weeks asking your Greek friends who go to other schools, their parents, your parents' friends, church friends, former teachers, etc. for recs. This might help you this year get an invitation to the next round so that you can put your best conversation foot forward.

What are you doing differently this year from last year? If you don't do anything differently, you are likely to have the same result this time around.

Thanks all for the replies. My sister was involved in recruitment last year, so I know the chapter knew of my legacy and she filled out the appropriate forms. This year that hasn't been done yet because I haven't even registered for recruitment and am unsure wether I should try again. I was simply asking if anyone knew how competitive rushing was for second time sophomores but unless i try i guess I'll never know. Thank you all for the help!

Wish I could tag our ThetaPrincess...
Jen, did you get invited back to preference, but decided not to go? Or did you not get invited to preference at all? How is your GPA?

Back in 2008, ThetaPrincess said to have "grades, some leadership/extra-curricular activities and recommendations" for EKU. I would think that for second time through the grade and activities would have to be attractive to the groups and that again recommendations would be necessary.

Thetaprincess is probably observing Panhellenic Silence. Best not to bother her.
Jen, If your sister is a member of a sorority on campus, she would be the best person to ask these questions to.

I withdrew before preference night. My GPA is fairly high so I dont think it was an issue. Activities and what not were not so great, I wasn't that involved in high school. I'm also naturally a shy and quiet person so I don't think my personality translated well during rush, but thank you all and I will try to discuss this with my sister as well.

Don't withdraw before preference.
Don't withdraw before preference.
Don't withdraw before preference.
As has been noted here in many rush stories spanning five decades, preference night can be transformational. If you were invited to preference parties, you had a successful recruitment in process. Pref parties are a unique opportunity to see the group/s in a new light.

She is indeed due to her position.
