Rec Questions

Just a couple of quick questions on recs:

1) Should I ask the women writing me recs to list me as a freshman or a sophomore? I'm currently a freshman in years and a sophomore in credits, but since Clemson has rush in the fall I will be a sophomore in years by then and I'm just not sure what they should put.

2) Should I have them fill out the rec now or wait until my second semester is completed and my GPA has changed? I don't want to delay finding recs for too long and my GPA is really good right now (3.7) but will it look bad if it's changed between now and when the chapters see it for rush?

Thank you in advance!

They should list your class by credits. You are a sophomore. They may also indicate on the rec or an introductory letter that you have X number of years left at the university, and you came in with college credits because of AP/IB/dual enrollment. They can send the recs now or early summer once grades are out. It is up to you. It could be to your benefit to send them earlier so the sororities have an idea of who you are sooner. Don't worry if your grades change from fall to spring. They know that, and the sororities will consider your GPA based on their verification of your grades through the university.

I disagree with adpiucf. I think for recruitment purposes, you are in incoming freshman at Clemson. Do not give the houses an opportunity to be confused and think they are pledging a sophomore. Many girls are entering college with college credits but the university as well as the Greek system considers them incoming freshmen.

Is anyone else concerned about how convoluted this dual credit stuff has gotten with respect to recruitment? Seems the answer is not clear and it can easily become a liability to pnms who are going through competitive recruitments.

I am already enrolled at Clemson and have been here since August, so I am not an incoming freshman. I agree that it does get confusing when AP/IB/what-have-you credits are involved, but I am almost done with my freshman year.

This is also why I'm more concerned about getting recs, because I know that as a sophomore I come in at a disadvantage to all the freshmen. I have about half of the chapters covered but finding the other half is proving to be somewhat difficult.

There's a lot of great advice in this forum about finding recs when you don't have contacts. The thread linked in my signature includes some info about recs, and there are a few stickied/recent posts. The first thing to do is to go back to the sponsors you do have and to ask them if they know any alumnae in the sororities you still need recs for. They will be glad to put you in touch.
