UCF (FL) Suspends Alpha Tau Omega Chapter

UCF has put ATO on emergency suspension; allegations of hazing are reported in an article. According to the article there'll be further developments, with "a meeting" slated to take place Nov. 20:

Excerpt from ^:

Alpha Tau Omega's 'national headquarters is also investigating, but so far found "no reason to believe any of this is true," said ATO Chief Executive Officer Wynn Smiley.

"Not only do we not have any evidence of hazing, it would go against what this chapter is known for," Smiley said, adding that the "allegations sound fishy."

That's a shame. Wonder what's going to happen with their house. Idk if its own by ATO or the University but I know our own UCF chapter has been trying very hard to get a house

How can the U. suspend a chapter on an anonymous accusation where there is no complainig witness, no victim and the evidence indicates it's a false claim? ATO should get their big guns and lawyers and let the U. know that they are liable for any damage to ATO's ability to attract members.

Fraternities cow-tow too much to this kind of crap from administrators.

Honestly the last accusation (being forced to remain in the house unless work or at class) doesn't seem like such a big deal. I'm sure if there was an emergency they would let a pledge leave. That I can honestly believe is a truthful claim, but personally I don't see what is so wrong about it.

"ATO Chief Executive Officer Wynn Smiley said officials at the maternity’s national headquarters in Indiana looked into the matter, but so far have found no evidence that any of the accusations are true.

Allegations aside... I am really tired of reading articles on supposed "news" sites with obvious typos that would not be caught by spell check. Spell check is NOT the only proofreading methodology that should be used by news sites! "maternity".... oy.

What's so wrong about it is that it's called false imprisonment.

"What's so wrong about it is that it's called false imprisonment."

Most fraternities require their pledges to live in the house during initiation week. That's an accepted practice and it's not hazing.
I sense there's a growing willingness on the part of fraternity alumni across the board to confront bullying administrators who "suspend" chapters with no justification. The chapters do not belong to the university; they belong to the National and to the members.
