Hello From the North

Hi Everyone,
I have seen that our little sorority (Alpha Pi Beta) up here in Northern BC Canada has already gotten some face time on this site.
needless to say we are a fairly small local sorority ( 24 active members and 100 alumni). We are not nationally affiliated with anyone and have looked in to it but our alumni membership is so spread out and the financial costs are too great for it to be a viable option (this year we nearly doubled our membership and had !10! girls pledge!)
We are currently looking at become more of a sorority and not as much of a woman's club on campus. It is hard for us as we have nothing to compare our self's to other than the movies or national sorority's which have so many resources. For us getting things such as pins and personalized thing are a nightmare and crafting stores don't even have much as in Canada the Greek system is not as important as in the USofA.
Just a bit about us.
We have a fantastic website and please check us out and let me know what you think. http://alphapibeta.weebly.com/index.html

I wouldn't worry about being like everyone else, but if you don't have a ritual, colors, flower, song, those might be places to start. But I think if most of our NPC sororities were to do it again, it might all be simplified, so don't feel like you have to make it all a big hairy deal.

Regarding pins, that is a remarkable expense, and it's one part of our history that continues to amaze me. When a spare $100 was unheard of, these women were going to their local jeweler to have things designed. You might check into having a jewelry designer see what he can work up. Generally they don't charge for the design work; just the manufacture. And nobody said your pin needed to be jeweled, solid gold, etc. A simple pin (check out the Pi Phi arrow, the Kappa key, the Alpha Xi Delta quill) will probably be easier to work with than the lettered overlays, which I would imagine cost more in the early stages of production.

Hi Marie,
Welcome to Greek Chat. I actually corresponded with someone from your sorority (Amanda D.) maybe 5-8 years ago, and we talked a bit about UNBC, etc. I wish you and your sorority great success!
