Does anyone know UF's dues? Someone told me they are like 1700 a semester for out of the house, but that it includes lunch and dinner during the week days.

UF's dues are in that range. Between a $1000 and $2000 each semester (higher for in-house sisters), but it depends on if the house has a mandatory meal plan (or reduced number of meals) and such. Our tuition is a steal anyhoos, esp. with Florida Bright Futures, so it evens out.

I think it's a good deal. I can't prepare my own meals, anyway, and with my in-house dues I'm saving a ton in comparison to how much I spent in apartment rent this past year.

Your Guide to the Greeks will have a good estimation of how high the dues are and where the money goes.

One more thing to keep in mind ... well, two, really.

Dorm/house costs are usually equivalent. Some sororities include room/board under "dues" and others break it out. Make sure you know how the sororities on your campus do it (they'll be pretty consistent on one campus).

Also, some chapters include more in their dues than others. For example, my dues were around $150/semester, if I remember right. However, this didn't include mandatory rush t-shirts, formal, date party, etc. You're going to end up paying for most of those no matter what, which will bring your total expenditure up considerably. Find out if those are included in the dues.

Still, even if every chapter calculated dues in the same way (aka, room and board not included, all required events and the big dances included), they would vary wildly from campus to campus. And the higher the dues go, there are people who can't afford it. Yeah, people say, "I worked to pay my dues," but some people have to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer just to cover the cost of the education, period. On the other hand, if your dues are higher, you're getting more (materially, at least).

Cool

I'm glad I'm in a music GLO instead, because our dues are only 25 per semester.

I think ours (it's been a couple years!) were about $150 a year, but we didn't have a house, and most activities/shirts/conference/etc. were paid for out of our own pockets.

From what I've heard, my campus was pretty cheap though - I think the housed sororities paid about double what we did.

My tuition was less than some of yalls dues!!!!

Yes, I forget that only us wierd Ohioans/midwesterners have quarters. Your correct, 4 quarters a year, so $511 x 3, and I'm not sure about summer quarter (what the dues are).

It looks like our dues at OSU are pretty reasonable, and I would ask if all you sisters feel it's worth the cost, but I'm sure you all would say it's the best investment you've ever made.

WOW!! All your dues seem low compared to what i pay. Every month I pay 210.10 which is 840.40 a semester. however we also have to pay around 100 for rush in the fall plus we have to buy all the clothes for all the days, so it costs us around 400 for rush total. then we have to pay another 200 a semester for meals(we only have to buy monday night dinners if we live out of the house). Plus we have to pay for all philanthropy shirts and and additional costs for each philanthropy. and we pay extra for our formal and semi formal. Then if there are any other costs that come up like activity meetings, retreats or any other event we have to pay for that too. Basically the only thing we do not pay for are our exchanges(which we are only allowed to have 2 of a semester). I would say every semester I pay around 2000$ give or take a little. And i do not even live in the house!!! I would love to only pay 500 a semester, you guys are lucky!!!
