Outfit Help Please?
I'm going through recruitment in a few weeks at a school that is considered competitive, but is not an SEC or other Southern school. I'm pretty sure of what I'm going to be wearing for most of the process, but I'd like to run my Pref dress past you lovely people, if that's okay.
My school's attire suggestion for Pref reads: "Wear a nice dress on this day, such as one you might wear to an afternoon wedding."
I went on over to Polyvore (which is completely addictive) and found my dress and decent matches for my accessories. The dress is a tiny bit long on me (no more than an inch) because I'm vertically challenged, but I figured it's better the dress be too long than too short. Other than that, it fits like a dream. It's 100% cotton and very well-made. My pearl earrings aren't exactly like these; the drop is about twice as long and the pearls themselves are smaller, but they're close. Please let me know what you think, because my inner perfectionist is freaking out over here.

Not knowing the school, I'd say it's a little too casual for pref. I know it would certainly be too casual for SEC schools. Length is excellent though. Am thinking this would be better for skit day.

The school is USC (California), if that helps at all. I know recruitment attire is a little more casual at USC than at SEC schools, but I don't know how much.

Pref is during the day. I think that is way they are saying dress like an afternoon wedding. I'm not super familiar with USC recruitment but I'm in the west and that would fly at my school.

hm, I'd say the print is a bit loud? I haven't noticed prints being huge at USC, and when girls here do wear prints, they tend to be more muted. Not that the fashion style is conservative, but it tends to be more daring in terms of the cut of the dress (daring meaning unique, not necessarily risque) than the print of it.
I doubt you'll run into many other strappy heels, also—strappy flats, yes, but the heels are mostly peeptoes, pumps, and wedges.

Hmm. What if I wore this dress for Slideshow Day and then a more cocktail-type dress for Pref? Would that be better?

I think it would be cute for Slideshow Day.
A solid colour cocktail dress for Pref would be good, just make sure its not too short above the knees. Or too revealing up top.
I also second Kaeb's advice against strappy heels.

I also have this dress hanging in my closet right now.... I'm not sure if it's nice enough to fit the bill but I thought I'd check before running out to buy something new.

I think it's gorgeous and classy. I don't know if the print would be too loud though.

Diluxi, I like the dress, but seasonally, I don't think it's right for USC recruitment—we're all about the extended summer kind of thing, meets Hollywood chic.
