No preference will be given to one sorority over another, but the workshops will provide a comprehensive overview of the Panhellenic society and things that sisterhood has to offer
I want to know exactly what this is supposed to mean?

Bama - Tri Delta
GCSU - ADPi

Based on what Google found I think these girls have recently become alumnae members of their groups.

I don't see what all the negative uproar is about. I think it's a great idea - a little pricey but hey - if they pay it, so be it.

It's not against school recruitment rules because it's PH oriented. You'd have to ban APH events as well as what we all do on a personal level every day.

I think it's also great for women who are the first in their family to go to college...or whose mother may be Greek but hasn't even read her group's magazine since she got married. Things have changed since mom was in school and if she hasn't kept her hand in it - the daughter won't have a clue.

I see it as a positive....

It's positive if they know what they are talking about. You have women who have no discernible sorority connection (being the mothers of sorority members does NOT count) giving advice and information about sorority recruitment and "a comprehensive overview of the Panhellenic society". You just have to wonder how accurate and how biased their information is. Since they are not members of Panhellenic themselves, they have no agenda to see that the good of Panhellenic as a whole is upheld.

There's also no recourse if they AREN'T being Panhellenic. Their daughters are alum, and even so, you can't really punish a chapter for one of their member's craycray helimoms if they were playing dirty.

Wouldn't it be nice to look at the glass as half full instead of half empty - just once? What do you want? A member from each of the 26 NPC groups to run the business so we all "know" they are truly being Panhellenic????? Really?

Oh, calm down, no one is saying that.

There are groups out there that talk about recruitment very panhellenically without involving a member of every NPC group, but they have appropriate credentials to back up their advice. Where do these ladies get their information? Your sarcasm is unnecessary.

I don't think you have to be a member of a NPC group to give advice about recruitment. I am a member of Kappa Alpha theta but I would never have been able to give people advice about LSU- it was totally different then the school I went to. Some of the best advice I got was from a woman who ws not in a sorority but her three daughters had all been through recruitment at LSU. She was very helpful and quite honestly I probably would have paid for the help with recs etc. that she gave us.

As I mentioned back on page 1 of this thread - one of the ladies doing this workshop is Pi Phi from Univ of Tennessee. But she and her partner did not know enough to use the proper term - eg Panhellenic - they had Pan-Hellenic in their initial marketing materials.

I am sure this workshop will be fine and if someone pays $195 to attend I guess that is her choice. I suspect it's probably more an etiquette workshop with a sorority recruitment twist. There are already two awesome alumnae panhellenic associations in the area - Atlanta APH and the Atlanta Southern Crescent APH - who hold wonderful sorority info sessions for FREE!

RIGHT?! Do you mean I could be getting PAID for talking about all the stuff that gets stickied around here for free??

In all seriousness, making people pay for this kind of thing opens up a host of other issues. Ex: Mommy McDaughterCopter wants a refund because Daughter didn't get a bid. Or didn't get a "good enough" chapter even though she did everything you said.

It also rubs me the wrong way because I KNOW who they're targeting with their services. First generation college students who know nothing about Greek Life who THINK it's going to up their chances.

Our local Tri Delta alumnae chapter has never heard of this workshop. When I read the article it was a complete surprise. The Atlanta alumnae chapter of Tri Delta has no connection with this business. We belong to the NPC Atlanta Panhellenic, have a delegate, alternate and support the Atlanta Panhellenic and their programs.

Right, and as we've talked about here, women who are ultra-prepared know the active sisters already, and THAT is what matters. No workshop is going to give you that advantage.
