The Hatfield father said something to the effect of "sure, she's lovely but is it worth it?!" The answer is...NO...neither the looks nor the sex are so awesome as to go through all of this. LOL.

I absolutely loved the series (although I am a bit of a history buff) and was really surprised about how good it was. Most miniseries aren't exactly top quality, and so I was really impressed with the cinematography, writing, and casting.

Only downside was that it was shot in Europe, not the US

They couldn't film it in the original area. It doesn't look like that anymore since the railroads and coal companies came in. Romania had the landscape that looks like the Tug Fork area looked at the time of the feud.

I felt sorry for her too. I couldnt help but laugh at the end where it said that Johnse married four more times!!

I felt sorry for Rosanna as well and for Jonse, that because of their family name, only, that they couldn't be with the one that they loved.
However, it seems just that Ole Rand'll died the way that he did in the end. It seems that because of his anger and his refusal to proverbally "let it go" that he was the main cause of strife in and with his family for many years. It's his wife that tells him the just truth in the end and he still refuses to believe her, rather, found it easier to "lock her up and throw away the key."
His mentality just...dunno what to say. Although I can understand his initial anger and reason for being pissed with Devil Anse, it just verged on the sense of ridicule and lunacy that he just couldn't seem to get past the fact that Anse did what he felt he had to do.

Oh definitely, it looks nothing like that now. I kept noticing times when it seemed like the weather when they were shooting (cold, no leaves on trees, etc.) didn't match the time of the year the movie was portraying, and I wish they could've shot it at two times of the year. Me being picky though

I have a sneaking suspicion that they filmed in Romania to save money. There are places all through the Appalachian mountains that look remarkably like the Tug. The Asheville, NC area would have worked as well.

Also, thought that Randall McCoy went a little bonkers in the Union prison and add to that his sense of justice was skewed when he let Anse desert and you have a lot of mental problems. I thought they overplayed the doltish aspect of many of his children but it was a very good mini series.

Brother dated a Hatfield while in college. She was in a sorority but I can't remember which one.

He went to WVa to visit her one time; he said there was 1 road in the whole state.

^^^Ahem, no, West Virginia has more than one road thank you very much.....now if we're talking safe roads, straight roads (that don't involve upchucking several times) or roads that lead to civilization....there may be only one of those....

Maybe he was talking about the infamous West Virginia turnpike which was the best road in the state and I admit-that's not saying much. For years it was a 2 lane undivided highway....basically a death trap. For years every time we left my grandparent's house, the only thing I remember my grandfather saying as we left was, "Don't get on the Turnpike!"
